Confidentiality for women's health checks?!

Question: Confidentiality for women's health checks!?
I am 17 years old and have been sexually active since last year!. My parents don't know, but my friends have told me that once you become sexually active you need to go in and get a pap smear and other types of girlie tests!. First of all, is it a must!? And also, is the doctor allowed to talk to my parents about it!? Or is there a confidentiality thing between doctor patient!? One more thing!.!.!. Where can I go to get one without having to go to my actual doctor!? I just want to pay out of pocket for a cheap one if i have to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, it is a must!. But, as far as I know, as long as you specifically tell your doctor that you don't want them to discuss your visits with your parents, then they can't and won't!.

Typically you can go to your local Health Department and get these kinds of check-ups for little cost or sometimes even nothing!. Also, the Health Department is legally obligated to confidentiality!.

Good luck! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not absolutely required until you are 18!. But thats right around the corner, so no time like the present! Yes there is doctor-patient confidientiality, the physicialn cannot tell anyone, anything about you unless he/she feels you may harm yourself, or others!.!.!.So just go to your regular physician and they can refer you to an OB/GYN [[female doctor]!. Your insurance will cover it, and it is not very cheap, so no paying out of pocket!. Since you are still 17 your regualr physician can do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YES it is a must!. it checks for cervical cancer, which I'm sure you wouldn't want to hide from your mom or find out too late that you had it!.

as for where to get it done, I'm pretty sure planned parenthood does, but you could also just go to your doctor and tell them you want to pay out of pocket!.

but honey, you're 17!. if you're responsible enough to have sex, then you have to be responsible enough to tell your parents!. otherwise, you're not being responsible about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Call planned parenthood and ask them what they recommend for a newly sexually active 17 year old!. I don't think it is absolutely needed to get an exam unless you are going to go on birth control (recommended!!)!.

They are confidential and very inexpensive!. Call them and ask questions! They also have a website!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

With the pap tests you only really need it if you're over 20, sexually active, or having problems with your period!. (Any ways that is what my Dr!. told me when I went in to see her a few days ago) I have been sexually active, but with only one partner!.!. I'm assuming the only need for that is if you're worried you have an STD!.

And since you are underaged the doctor is allow to talk to your parents!. If I was you I would wait until I turned 18 to get it!.

For going for a cheap one-- I wouldn't recommend it!. They check for cervical cancer and STDs!. I would rather go to someone who knew what they were doing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I is always a good idea to go to the doctors once you have become sexually active!. IF you also feel that its safer then the best thing to do would be to talk to your mom!. Whether it makes you feel weird or not, its about your health!.
Don't go to some place and get a cheap one, that doesn't seem safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can go to the health department to get it and the drs cant tell your parents
and its cheap there too
=]
they can also prescribe you birth controll if you want and giv it to you for cheap!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
