Well thats something that you certainly can not control!. Girls start younger nowadays than they used to!. Its perfectly normal to start anywhere from 11 to 16!. Don't worry about it!. Once it does start, you'll wish it hadn't, believe me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

5th grade is a really early time to start, so i dont think that you are a late bloomer, so much as all of your friends were early bloomers!. you shouldn't be worried until you are 16, that's the age when most women should have had their period by!. enjoy yourself while you don't have any bloating, cramps or fatigue !! =p im totally kidding :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd say you are the lucky one!. Nothing to worry about it will come when your body is ready!. I was a late bloomer too and I am proud of it to this day because they always had to deal with it and I didn't!. I took it as a gift!. Good Luck--cheer up you will look back on this question one day and wonder why you even cared!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow!.!.!.it seems like yesterday when I was wondering what it would be like to have my period and when I would get it! I am in my early 40's now and I started my period when I was 9 years old, Sweetie do not be in too big a rush!

Now, having said that, I assume you would be 12/13 judging by your grade!? Your period could begin anytime now! Are you noticing other changes in your body!? Some signs to watch for;

-A kind of achy or tender feeling in your breast area, it could be a sign you are beginning to develop!.

-Are you sweating more when you do gym or play sports!? That can be a sign that your hormones are making changes in your body!.

-Do you have any body hair!? Another sign your body is beginning to develop!.

-Some girls get cramps in their stomach but still do not have any bleeding, that can happen off and on for a few months before you actual get your period!.

-Some girls also get an aching in their lower back, or headaches around the same time every month!.

Now keep in mind, those are just a few of the signs and not every girl gets every symptom!. Also, sometimes female family history can give you an indication when it might start!. I know that I took after my mom, yet my 2 sisters (1 older, 1 younger) did not start near as early as I did! If you could talk to your mom about it to get her history that would be great!

If by the time you are about 15/16 and if you have not started getting your periods, you should be checked by a doctor!. Honey, it is nothing to be scared of okay!? She/he will just make sure you are progressing the way your own personal body should be!. And please, I know it is easy for this ol' bag to say but!.!.do not compare your body to your friends' bodies! Your body is doing just what it is meant to, besides are all your friends really getting your period or are they just talking!?!?

If you haven't already shopped for pads/tampons, now would be a good time to go with your mom or another trusted female adult to see what is available because there again, not every young woman likes to use the same thing!. If you begin to get the cramping and back pains, it is best to keep something in your backpack/purse so that if it happens at school, you will be covered!.

If you are having some off and on cramping, it might be wise to wear a pantyliner each day just in case as in the beginning your period will likely be very light and will probably only last a couple of days at first!. Also, do not be alarmed if you get a period one month then nothing for 1 or 2 months, that is perfectly normal to!. But, if you do start and you go longer than 1 or 2 months in between, best to have the doctor check you out and make sure everything is on schedule!

Oh!.!.!.you should also tell your mom when you begin so that she is kept in the loop and can reassure you if things go a little haywire at first!

Last but not least, you need to relax about it! Sometimes stress can do goofy things to your body so just remember, eventually every woman gets their period it's been that way since cavemen were too embarrassed to go to the store to buy their wives 'those things' and it will be forever more!

Take care Sweetie!
