Answers:
It's not inevitable!. It is entirely your choice, just like seeing or not seeing any other doctor is your choice!.

First of all, seeing a gynecologist is a American thing!. Women in most countries other than the US don't routinely see gynecologists!. They get pap tests, birth control, and STI tests from regular doctors!. Even if you live in the US, there's no reason you can't use your GP for routine gynecological needs!.

Beyond that, it really depends on sexual activity and whether you have any problems!. The American Cancer Society does not recommend pap tests until age 21 or three years after first vaginal sexual intercourse, but if you read the full guidelines (http://caonline!.amcancersoc!.org/cgi/cont!.!.!. you will see that they set the "age 21" to protect victims of sexual assault as well as people who are uncomfortable talking about sex, and they do not believe pap tests are necessary or useful for people who have NEVER had any sort of sexual contact!.

In most of the UK, women start getting pap tests at age 25!.

Here are some good reasons to see a gynecologist or see a regular doctor about a gynecological issue:
--You want birth control (hormonal birth control DOES NOT require a pelvic exam, though)
--You are having a problem with your period (heavy bleeding, cramps, etc)!.
--You are having pain during sex, using tampons, etc!.
--You want to be screened for STDs (also does not require a pelvic exam--may be done with blood and urine tests)
--You want cervical cancer screening (pap test)Www@Answer-Health@Com

as soon as you start having sex, you need to see a gyn!. Otherwise, you can wait untill you are 19Www@Answer-Health@Com
