Can i be numbed or put to sleep for a cervical biopsy?!

Question: Can i be numbed or put to sleep for a cervical biopsy!?
I had a colposcopy and cervical biopsy done last month and my gyno told me to come back in 3 months to do it again!. The problem is that the procedure was almost traumatic for me and i was in A LOT of pain during it and for 3 days after that!. I am terrififed at the thought of having to do it again!. I know that i will not be relaxed during the next biopsy and it will probably hurt more becuase now i know more of what to expect!. Can i be put to sleep for the biopsy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would request medication to have this done!. It is not pleasant and having the cervix manipulated can be very painful!. I would not like to have this done without some kind of sedative!. In the hospital where I work it is done under light sedation with pain relief!. I would certainly request this!.
I would not have it done without some sedation which is quick acting and which you should only need to stay around after the procedure for about an hour!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same procedure done and it was uncomfortable, but no where near painful and I certainly didn't have pain or discomfort days later!. Maybe your should talk to your gyno or even consider consulting another because the pain you describe isn't "typical" or "normal"!. I don't think they will put you to sleep for your next biopsy only because it is a relatively easy procedure and the risks of anesthesia are too great!. I would recommend you talk to your doctor about your previous experience with pain and he/she could prescribe you something for the pain to take before your biopsy and for the few days after you think you may still feel the pain, he/she may also prescribe something for the anxiety you're feeling about having to have this procedure done again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ahh, i know the feeling!. I have to have them done every three months, and have for about 6 years now!. They hurt me too!. They actually won't put you to sleep, and probably won't numb it either!. It's too much trouble for them, but maybe they could use a cream!. It does get better with time!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
