The Merina Coil????!

Question: The Merina Coil!?!?!?!?
Hey girls, I went to see the gyno yesterday and she is getting me fitted with the Merina because of very heavy periods and cos am having 2 periods a month!!!

I go in for it 4th september and I was just wondering whether any of you girls have had it and did you have a dramatic change in your periods and did you continue getting periods!?

I have tried researching it on the internet but I just need some more information and ladies had the experience of the merina, and also they are knocking me out to have it fitted cos I have got to have a camera done aswell!!!!!

When I asked the preop sister this morning she said once am back up from the theatre I will notice some bleeding but not much!!!! Why is that!?

And do they break the hymen to get into the womb!?

I would love these questions answered if you can help me out, thanks a million for your help!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a Mirena and have done for about 6 years - in my experience, it's a fantastic form of contraception!. You should note though that I have had two children - often they don't prescribe an IUD until after you've had children!.

I initially had a regular IUD fitted, and although I didn't experience any pain, my periods became very heavy so I switched to the Mirena and now have no periods at all - every so often, I have a very, very light bleed, but a panty-liner is protection enough!. I have no cramps, no pain and in fact I never even think about it unless the topic of contraception arises!.

Mine was fitted by my GP with no anaesthetic of any kind, and was no more uncomfortable than a smear test - and although I felt a little crampy for maybe a coupe of hours after, I certainly wouldn't describe it as painful, and I didn't bleed at all!. I don't know about the hymen issue - I presume they would have to enlarge the opening in it in order to insert the coil, but this shouldn't hurt!.

On the packet instructions, there's a heap of stuff about you checking the wires yourself - my doctor said this is basically to cover them legally, but there is no need for you to probe around trying to locate them (the doctor will cut them short and tuck them up inside you) as you would notice if it came out, which is highly unlikely, and there's no way for it to "go missing" - I have my coil checked when I have a smear test, and that's it!. I don't think about the thing otherwise - it works, I can't feel it, and I don't have periods!. Can't see a down-side!Www@Answer-Health@Com

12% of women on Mirena experience NO PERIOD after 12-18 month use!.
Some syptoms include pregnancy symptopms!. Pregnancy rate is !.09%!.

You may spot after insertion or you may not, For example I have had 2 Mirena IUD's and did spot for insertion or removal!.

It is recommended you have atleast one child and by the question about it breaking your hymen its clear you have never had a child so I would def get a second opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
