If you are afraid of it and feel like it may be painful, you can buy a topical freezing called Emla!.

You put it on one hour beforehand and then wash it off!. You likely won't feel it!. A lot of people use it and say it helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm 15, and I have my tonsils out last November, when I was 14!. I don't take needles well either, and they did it five times until they finally got it in!. My IV ended up in the hand, although they did try the arm!. I'm not sure what hurts more--they both felt the same to me; but then again, I was trying to think of other things at the time!. Needles terrify me!.
**Edit** When I was younger, they knocked me out before I got an IV!. But, at the 'teenage' age, you probably won't be knocked out!. Yet, your hospitals may be different then my area's!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hand hurts more!. You could ask your anesthesiologist to give you some numbing medicine before they put the IV in!. That will sting for a minute, but after that you shouldn't feel a thing!. Sometimes, if you are really nervous, they'll knock you out with gas before they put the IV in!. I've only seen them do this with kids under 7 or 8, though--but you could ask!. IVs in the arm don't hurt any more than getting a regular blood draw!. In the hand they are slightly more uncomfortable, but only because you are moving your hand so much!. I've had a lot of IVs and a lot of people practice on me--I still have to look away--I can put them into people but can't watch one getting put into me!. Good luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

they both are a little uncomfortable!. but i have had both and i prefer the hand because when the IV is in they tape it down and when its in your arm its uncomfortable to bend sometimes!. but you'll be alright!. the IV will be the least of your problems!. your throat will be pretty sore, good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It generally hurts more in the hand!. Explain to your nurse and anesthesiologist that you have a fear of needles!. They may have ways to help calm your fears, or make the whole process as pain free as possible!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i had my tonsils taken out like a year ago and they knock you out with "silly juice" before you ever even see a needle!. and the stuff knocks you out cold so you won't feel or notice anything (so you should be fine)!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would say hand!.
because in the arm there's more fat and you feel it less!.
that's where i would have it, and i'm 13 too!.
good luck on your surgery :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

The hand definately hurts more!. I've had both done and the arm is just a tiny little prick!. The hand hurts more and is more painful to watch!.

But whatever your comfortable with :PWww@Answer-Health@Com
