Try using a heating pad on your lower abdomen when your cramps begin!. Lie down on your side (whichever is more comfortable,) draw your legs up slightly and put the heating pad over your lower abdomen!. Turn the heating pad to MEDIUM (never High!) and put a pillow over it to keep it tucked into the hollow of your body!. Get a good book, relax and enjoy the warmth!. Your uterine muscles will relax and you'll feel better!. It's easier (and dryer) than a hot bath, and you can fall asleep while the pad is on--unlike in a bathtub!.

Another technique that used to help me is visual and focused relaxation!. Sort of like self-hypnosis in a way!.

Lay down in a dark room where you know you will not be disturbed for at least an hour or more--you can even use your heating pad here too!. Then close your eyes and imagine the following things as vividly as you can:

Red----imagine red!. Imagine apples, stop signs, red rubber balls, valentine hearts!. Imagine as much non-active red as you can and while you're imagining it, begin to try to feel all the muscles in your body, starting with your middle--your heart!. When you fix this in your mind, imagine Orange!.!.!.!.think of oranges, sunsets, boat sails, croc shoes--any non-active orange things!. Begin to move outward from your heart and try to feel the muscles in your chest and pelvis area!.!.!.and tell those muscles to relax!. When you have orange down, go to yellow, and move a little further away with relaxing your muscles to your shoulders, knees, neck!.!.!.then when yellow is fixed, go to green and move your muscle relaxation to your wrists and ankles, to your jaw; from green go to blue---reach all the way out to your feet and hands, and to your eyes--telling each of these areas to relax and go limp!. From blue go to violet!.!.!.and allow the tenseness in your muscles to leave your body through the top of your head and your fingertips and toes!. By this time you should be very relaxed and in a semi-trance state!. you can hold this for a while, or let it go and fall asleep!. You will wake refreshed and probably pain free!.

This takes some practice and effort, but it's very worth your while if you don't want to take pain pills!.

While you're in the "violet" stage, tell your body that it is healed, and pain-free and happy!. You can do this any time--for any problems, physical or mental or otherwise!. It's a useful technique to know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
