Question: Pap test question!.!.!.(please read)
I am 13 years old and I have had my period for a little over a year now!.My step mom says that I should have had a pap test by now but my mom said that I don't need one until I have sex!.What's the right answer and what's a pap testWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your mom is right!. I don't know why your step mom told you that!. A pap test is where you go to the gynecologist and they examine your female insides and take a sample of some kind of fluid or something inside and send off to make sure it's not cancerous!. I didn't have my first one until I was 15 or so, but it was because I had really bad periods!. I'm still a virgin, but I go get my yearly pap test, just because I have period problems and I'm 26 now!. So you don't need to get one unless you are sexually active or you have period or some kind of female problems in that area!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You don't need one till you have sex or get a bit older!. Idk why you step mother thinks a 13 year old should get a pap test!.!.!.that is ridiculous!. They use a metal device to open the vaginal opening a bit so they can take a long q-tip thing to take a sample from your cervix!. If you haven't had sex, your step mom isn't thinking straight!.!.!.if you are comfortable, you can tell your dad about this!.

Unless there is a history of feminine problems in your family, you shouldn't have anything to worry about!. You should still call a few doctors and ask just to get their opinion, but I know that is hard to do when 13!.

Your mom is the more correct one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your step mom is absolutely wrong! There is no reason for a 13 year old to be getting a pap smear unless they are having sex!. You don't need to get a pap smear until you are 18 or if you are having problems with your period, etc!. And yes, it would be really painful since you are only 13 and don't even use tampons yet!.

A pap test is where a doctor puts a metal instrument that kind of looks like a duck's bill (called a speculum) into your vagina and opens it up a little so the doctor can insert a tiny brush about the size of a toothpick to gently scrape cells off of your cervix to test for abnormal cells!. Once you are older and get used to it, it is no big deal!. However, I agree with your mother that you don't need one anytime soon!.

I hope this helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Once you start having sex, you should get a pap test!. Basically what it is, is they take a swab from the inside of your vagina and they test it for any abnormalities(std's, for example)!. the doctor will need to put his/her fingers inside you to feel your ovaries!. they could have cysts on them, or other problems that may need to be dealt with!. The doctor will run tests on the swab and if there is something that needs attention, they will call you within 2 weeks!. If you don't hear anything back from the doctor, then you are healthy!.
Once you have your first pap test, you should get one once a year following the first!.
Another thing you should do is be tested for lumps in the breasts!.
A full physical exam will include both of these procedures!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

generally, you don't need to start having your pap tests until you are 18, UNLESS you have something going on down there or a pre-existing condition!. If you are having sex before this age, then yes, you need to start having them!. Even if you are 18 or older and still a virgin, you should start having them then!.

A pap test is a test where the doctor takes a cell sample from your cervix!. These cells are looked at to be sure there are no abnomalites or infection etc!. It is not painful, though it can be uncomfortable!. It isn't a big deal! :) Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I asked my doctor that question when my daughter started her period!. She said that my daughter did not need a pap until she became sexually active!. There are many reasons a doctor would want to give you a pap test!. The real question I think your asking is what does the doctor do!? Well unfortunately he has to take a sample from inside your vagina!. It is really no big deal, other than it is a little embarrassing!. It is very quick, it is over in just a couple seconds!. I chose a female doctor so I wouldn't be so embarrassed!. After all she is a woman too and she has to get paps so I'm sure it is no big deal to her!. Sometimes a doctor just needs to get a look in there you know!. Women can sometimes develope infections that need a doctor's care!. Don't be afraid to say something to your mom if something seems to be different!. This doesn't necessary mean a pap is needed, but maybe just a look in there to cure a yeast infection or something!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

The PAP test is where they gently scrape a little bit of tissue from your cervix (the opening of your uterus, where a baby's head comes out), and test the cells for any signs of cancer!. Pre-cancerous cells may be present, and can be detected!.
A young woman may be a virgin, or not a virgin and not currently sexually active, and still develop cancer cells!. In other words, it's not necessarily associated with sexual activity, although that may be a contributing factor!.
I'll suggest it to my daughter when she's 16, she's 13 now!.

I just took my 16 year old to the clinic for birth control!. The nurse practitioner told us the new Surgeon General standards for pap smear testing is : when you become sexually active or your 21st birthday, whichever comes first!. They no longer recommend them outside of those guidelines!.

For her first visit for birth control the nurse examined her 'outside area' to make sure everything looked normal there but that's it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You don't need one right now!.!.!.listen to your mother!. You are not sexually active and still very young!. Once you start to have sex or reach about the age of 20yrs!. That is when it will be a good time to see one!. It can be a very emotional experience, so I would never really recommend someone your age to go!. Not unless you have medical reasons!. If your period is fine and you are not experiencing any problems!.!.!.!.Just wait till you are older or sexually active!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Definitely Don't need one!. The rule of thumb: get it when become sexually active or hit age of 21, or whichever comes first!.
You fit neither category!. The test isn't that comfy to take, so it's not like you should go get it for fun!. I'd say totally okay to wait a few more years before you go :)

Just to emphasize what I said some more, here's the OFFICIAL RULES for when to take the tests (click "who should have a test" and scroll down to the table):

Every woman should have a pap smear either when she starts being sexually active or when she turns 18!. She should have one every year after that!.

What you can look into is the vaccine against HPV!. That's meant more for your age group and is a great way to prevent cervical cancer!. Talk to your normal doctor!. She will explain when you need to have everything done as well!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You do not have to be sexually active to have a pap smear!! Most paps are done at age 16-18!. Pap smears tests for anything abnormal!. Cervical cancer for a example as well as a sexual transmitted disease!. Im pretty sure your doctor will let you know when he or she feels that you should have one!. A pap smear is vaginal examination where they insert a device or tool which is called a speculum to widen the opening a person's vagina to view their cervix!. If you dont know what the cervix is it is like a passageway that connects the uterus and vagina!. Your cervix is a passgeway that a baby travel through during birth before get to the outside!.!.!.!.so continuing ur cervix is checked by swabbing with something like a big q-tip!.!.!.it is then sent to the lab to be tested to see if the cells are cancerous or not!.!.I hope this was helpful!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't see what the harm would be to get one now, but normally you don't need one till you are sexually active!. I would listen to your mother in all honesty!. She knows you more than your step mother!. Not saying your step mother is wrong by any means or that you should NEVER take her advice, but!.!.!. in this case I'm leaning more toward your mother!. Hope this helps hun!

A pap smear test is where the doctor examines you in your very private area!. It may be uncomfortable but they dont hurt!. I had my first one when i was your age im 16 now!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with your step mom, but worry that you maybe a little young!. Do you know what will happen during the test!? A pap test can detect cervial cancer!. Ask your mom(s) to explain more about the test and their reasons for their recommendations!. I hope that helps you, LindaWww@Answer-Health@Com

A pap test is part of the internal pelvic exam women get annually!.
You don't need one unless
1] you are sexually active
2] you are 22 or over
3] you develop a 'female' problen - rash, unusual discharge, extremely painful periods, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A PAP test (or Papanicolaou test) is used for screening for diseases and diorders!. A small, thin piece of your cervical tissue is scraped away and put onto a slide for a microscope!. (This doesn't hurt much, like a pinch, and some women may spot a tiny bit of blood afterward, but this is uncommon!.)

A PAP smear can detect cervial cancer, STD, or other disorders!. (It cannot effectively diagnose HPV or human pappliomavirus, which can cause cervical cancer!.) This is why HPV vaccine was developed!.

PAP tests are usually done yearly, for people who are sexually active!. If you are healthy, and have no other reason to believe you may need this type of test!.!.!.!.!.!.a doctor or clinican will most likely say that you don't need one until you are sexually active!.

My daughter is 13, has had her period since she was 10!. She has no health reason for me to think she needs one yet!. I think your mom is right!.

P!.S!. The metal probe that person above me was talking about is called a speculum!. It is made of stainless steel, has completely rounded edges, and it does not hurt at all! It is a device used to widen the vaginal canal a bit so the gynecologist can see your cervix!. (Which is the opening of your uterus in case you didn't know!. And your uterus is a muscle, so when the tissue sample is taken, it really does not hurt!.!.!.!.promise!.)

P!.P!.S!. I don't like tampons either, and this may sound gross!.!.!.!.BUT if you try to put a little bit of Vaseline on the end of the tampon, it might make using one easier for you!. And maybe you are not putting it in far enough!. It takes practice and you have to actually get it past some muscles to get it in far enough!. If you did it right, you almost won't feel it!. You may still choose not to use them, but at least you know what to do in case you really wanna swim!. Playtex gentle glide jr!. or O!.B!. might work better for you too!. And now I will shut up! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
