Trying to understand what women go through during their cycles!

Question: Trying to understand what women go through during their cycles
O!.K!., I admit to being a biology dropout!. I do comprehend that women have monthly periods, and that there's blood flow!. However, I don't understand all the other symptoms that they get - the cramps, moodiness, body aches, hormone imbalances and so forth!. This isn't the kind of thing that was covered in any level of schooling (at least, not for the guys), and even my past and present lady friends either don't know or just say, "You're a guy - you wouldn't get it - why do you want to know!?" type responses!.

So, enlighten me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you want to know how we feel during our periods or do you want the biology behind it!? I'll do both!.

The biology:

During the menstruation phase (when we are bleeding) FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), LH (Luteinizing Hormone), estrogen, and progesterone levels are all low!. The follicular phase comes next; the pituitary gland (in the brain) releases FSH which causes the follicles to riped and ovaries to produce estrogen!.!.!.estrogen shuts down FSH!. Then comes the ovulatory phase!.!.!.the pituitary releases lots of LH causin a follicle to burst and release an egg!. In the luteal phase, the burst follicle becomes the corpus luteum and produces progesterone, which inhibits the production of LH!.!.!.!.!.all hormones are low again, and the bleeding starts (menstruation phase)!.

My personal experience:

I'm one of those women who has been "blessed" with a semi-terrible cycle!. ha!. Right after I ovulate (which is about 13-14 days before my flow) I start getting sore nipples and breasts!. Which get progressively more sore as my period gets closer!. I have a huge problem with anxiety and the like during that time but I manage it with Zoloft, so it isn't as bad as it could be!. The week before is the worst!.!.!.!.I get super sensitive!. I always feel like everyone is judging me and if someone says something even remotely cruel (even if it was meant to be a joke) I'll take it seriously and be really hurt!. And the crying!.!.!.the crying is super embarrassing!. Don't even look at me the wrong way or I might burst into tears!. The week before is also when the lower back ache, exhaustion and the bloating happen!. No matter which way I sit, the back ache doesn't go away, and as for the bloating!.!.!.it's just uncomfortable and I feel really full!. The exhaustion--could sleep alllll day long if I was allowed!. About 3-4 days before I get some mild cramps, which are somewhat like the cramps you get when you are gassy!. Sometimes I get a menstrual migraine, but not that often!. Then the day I start, that's the day I would like to get a hysterectomy!. lol!. I have horrible cramps, it feels like someone is simultaneously kicking me in the lower abdomen and lower back with steel toe boots and the pain travels down my thighs!. I usually pop Aleve and extra strength Tylenol together--a cocktail works best for me, grab some sort of heat source to put on my tummy and curl up in bed!. The first and second day are like that for me, and I usually don't eat much on those days either because I feel nauseous!. I usually start feeling better on day 3 or 4 of my period!.!.but not 100% until a day or two after it's over!.

I'm not saying that every woman's cycle is this bad!.!.!.some of us have it bad, some of us don't!.!.!.this is just my personal experience!.

I hope this helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

All those symptoms is why a visit from Aunt Flo is more commonly called "The Curse"!. Its just what happens every month to us gals and why we are so miserable!. In the Bible it is considered a females punishment from God!. Who knows why!.

We also crave sugar (chocolate) and salty foods (pretzels, potato chips)!. There is a scientific explanation for those cravings!. A females uterus needs sugars and salts to help the uterus contract (that is why a salt & water IV is hooked up to a pregnant patient giving birth) so that the uterus can expell the blood!.

The uterine contractions causes the cramping--don't know why the water retention (bloating) but the cramping causes moodiness!. Can you blame us for feeling like crap and being crabby!?

A week before the blood flow begins, we get cranky and start having slight lower abdominal pain sort of like diarrhoeah cramps!. Then, we start to cry without reason a few days before the blood flows!. Next, comes the flow of blood!. Now, we have to put an uncomfortable pad in our underwear or stuff a tampon up our vaginal to absorb the flow!. And, the pain increases!. Then, we do get diarrhoeah or have to crap a lot more for the next 5 to 7 days!. Of course, this makes us cry even more and get even more cranky!.!.!. how would you feel!. Then, we can be sane once the flow ends until the next mid-cycle craps begin!.

Now, aren't you glad you are a boy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

i don't get PMS symptoms, but i do get sore breasts right before my period!. then i start spotting, then the flow starts and you have to worry about pads and tampons all the time!. you have to make sure that there are no accidents as sometimes the flow can be very heavy!. nighttime is the worst!. mine lasts for 7 days almost!. i get really really bad cramps for the first 1-3 days (to the point where i have passed out from the pain b/c i used to refuse to take any pain meds)!. then after fainting twice, i decided to start taking advil!.!.!.but nothing stronger b/c i don't exactly want to be addicted to pain meds since i will be having my periods for a long long time!. and then it stops and the cycle begins again the next month!. its not fun!. but then again, we wouldn't be able to have kids without our uterus!.!.!.so its a blessing too!. i'm 10 weeks pregnant today! yay!Www@Answer-Health@Com
