Abnormal Pap Results...!

Question: Abnormal Pap Results!.!.!.
I'm 21 and had a pap smear on July 25th and found out August 1st that the results came back abnormal!. This is the second time that this has happened!. The first about about 2 years ago, I went back in 3 months later and had normal results!. This time they want to do a colposcopy, and that is really freaking me out!. Does this mean that they think it is something serious!? The nurse was very vague when talking with me about it, but I am still concerned!. Websites say that anything from infections to cancer can cause abnormal results; has anyone else had this happen, if so what was the outcome!? Also, she said depending on the results of the colposcopy, then treatment would be determined from there!.!.!.what type of treatment!? I'm just worried any would like any first had information as possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had almost the exact same situation as you!. I'm 23 and about a year and a half ago I had a pap smear done that came back abnormal!. For that one I just had to go back 3 months later for a repeat pap, which came back normal!. About a month ago I went for my pap and my doc called a couple weeks ago and said it came back showing "slight cancerous changes" and that he wanted to do a colposcopy!. I was really worried too, but he said he didn't think that it would turn out to be anything!. Last week I went to have the colposcopy done, which was not as big a deal as I thought it would be!. He said he found one area that looked abnormal and did a biopsy of it!. He told me it the results of the colposcopy come back abnormal, he would do a cryo-therapy on my cervix (cryo-therapy is where they kind of freeze off the abnormal cells)!. I'm not sure if that's what the nurse meant by "treatment" in your situation!. I know it's really scary to have the results of a pap come back abnormal and to need a colposcopy!. Try not to get too worried yet because you don't know what the results will be!. They may do the colposcopy and find absolutely nothing wrong!. I also think you should call your doctor's office back and tell them you want to talk to your doctor and NOT a nurse!. It's really important that you know all you can about the exact results from the pap, know what exactly the procedure will entail and feel as comfortable as you can with what's going on!. I hope this helped! Good luck on the colposcopy!! Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had an abnormal pap about 4 years ago!. I had a biopsy done and they said it would go away on it's own!. I'm not sure exactly whats going on in your situation but im sure they are doing it to be safe!. don't worry yourself too much!.

Although you might think an abnormal Pap smear means you have cervical cancer, the fact is that the majority of abnormal Pap smears are not caused by cervical cancer!. The more likely cause of abnormal Pap smear results is inflammation or a vaginal infection!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

The serious problem is your doctor's lack of direct communication with you!
It is time to shop for a second gynecologist!.
I am concerned that your questions were only answered by the nurse!. Before having ANY procedure done be sure to have your answers adequately answered by your medical doctor!. Any time you feel you must go to a website to get your questions answered you are not being attended to properly by your physician!. Be sure your gynecologist is Board Certified in gynecology, and that she received her degree from a really good Medical university!. You can do a web search to find out, or call the main hospital where he practices to ask!. You don't have to provide your name!. They can suggest a board certified gynecologist that practices at their hospital!. Call a really good hospital in your area, like BAYLOR hospital, and tell them you would like to ask for a physician referral!.
If your doctor is too busy to answer all of your questions, please be too busy to see this doctor ever again!. If it seems to be a stressful struggle to work things out that your doctor is talking freely with you, then it is time to see a different, more communicative doctor!.
You might want to get a second opinion before going to this doctor again anyway!. If you find a new doctor that you have a better trust and communication with, just call the appointment desk for the old doctor and (pleasantly) tell them you won't be needing the appointment!. That is all you need to say!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you have HPV!? A pap result that is abnormal with HPV is usually followed up with a colposcopy!. If your results are ASCUS you may just have small changes in the cells of your cervix and they just want to take a look and see what's up!. It could be from a yeast infection or bacterial infection and sometimes your pap is affected if you have recently had sex before you had your pap and your cervix got a little irritated!. It could be any number of simple reasons!.
If your result was ASCUS then that does NOT mean cancer!. They just want to take a better look at things!. I have had four colposcopys and while they are not fun at all, you feel a quick pinch or two, and it's over fast!.
I would not worry so much about treatment right now!. You will cause yourself a lot more worry!. There are simple procedures to treat the cervix if that's necessary but it may not be!. They may just want you to come back in three months if the biopsy comes back okay!.

I know what you mean about nurses in the gyno office!. They can be really insensitive and I have yet to find an office I am happy with!. The gyno I was seeing retired and now I am back to square one!. The place I go to now I feel like my gyno doesn't care about me at all and the staff is okay but could be nicer!.
I know these offices deal with a lot of patients but you would think considering the type of profession they are in they would learn to be a little more sensitive!.
BTW I know how you feel about nasty nurses and finding out you need a colposcopy!. I don't go to that office anymore since this was years ago but she was a monster b*tch from hell and I was just scared when I found out!Www@Answer-Health@Com
