As a young woman you are entitled to free contraception from your doctor or family planning association, you go and you say you wish to start on the pill and they talk you through it, ask some questions about your sexual practices (sometimes they dont even do that) and give you a prescription or a few packets of the pill!. If you also tell them about your problems with your periods being irregular and painful they will be able to recommend the product they think will work best for you, some brands of pill are better at helping with different menstrual issues, like irregularitys or heavy bleading!. The health professional you see is not allowed to discuss your visit with your parents, this is your choice not your parents!. Its good to see a young lady taking responsibily for herself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the exact same problem!. I'm 17 and recently started taking them 3 months ago!. My gynecologist prescribed them to me for shorter, lighter periods!. I also found out that I am anemic (have low iron), and that caused me to get nauseous during my period and throw up constantly the first day!. An iron deficiency can cause anemia, so check that out first!. It might be your problem!. I think iron helps for nausea and dizziness during your period and the pill helps for regularity!. Try iron first and see if it helps, because they are much cheaper than birth control pills!. you can buy iron without a prescription as well!. Women need more iron than men because of menstruation, so make sure you are not deficient!. Oh, and you could get birth control if you still wanted it from a prescription from your doctor at first, then just get the prescriptions renewed when they run out by refilling them over the phone with an automated machine and have them sent to a local hospital for pickup!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are two types of pill, combined pill, and progestogen only pill!.

The combined pill: you still get periods, you stop taking the pill and have a 7day break whilst you are on your period!. It should help reduce the pain and help to keep them regular!.

Progestogen only pill: You take this continually, no breaks!. Most people don't have periods when they are on this, but if so, they are usually light!.

When you get a prescription from your GP you can take it to the chemist and get the pill free of charge!.
You should tell your doctor the reasons why you want to go on the pill as there are lots of different brands and he can prescribe the one thats best for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your GP will have no problem prescribing you the pill as you're 16, and you will find it helps!. Ask for a low dose pill (doesn't mean less effective, but means safer) such as Mercilon or Marvelon!. Once the doctor gives you a prescription, you just take that to a pharmacy and if you're in the UK, it is totally free!. You will probably start with 3 months' supply, then have to go back to have your blood pressure checked and then get another 6 months' supply!.

These links should help you understand more about the medication you want to take:

You may find the POP (progestogen only pill) helpful as it tends to stop your periods altogether, so no more pain!

Good luck!. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor anything you don't understand or you're unsure of!. xx

go and see the doc and he will give you a prescription that you just hand in at the local chemist and they will give you the tablets!. usually the doc will ask you to make an appointment with the nurse just to make sure everything is ok!. you take the tablets for 21 days and then you get 7 days off, and then 21 days again!.!.!.all the instructions are enclosed with the tablets!.!.!.you soon get in to the swing of things!.!.!.it's not as bad as it may soundWww@Answer-Health@Com

Go to ur local sex clinic and they can put you on the pill!. Im not a woman, but I am pretty sure that there are different types depending on your medical history and you parents!. Just tell them about ur periods and they wil ask you questions!. Answer honestly and they will give you the best one for you!

Oh and if and when you have sex, make sure you still use a condom as the pill does not save you from STD's and trust me, there are LOADS out there!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
