I had a LEEP in 1998!. Back then, they only numbed the cervical area with a local anesthetic!. From what I understand, many women are completely knocked out for the procedure now!. The procedure itself was not painful at all, it will smell (a burning smell) though since they are basically using heat to cut a piece(s) off!. You will be in the same position as during a pap, with a speculum in!. Afterwards, you will be instructed to not have intercourse or insert tampons to decrease the risk of infection and to allow the area to heal!. The LEEP was 10 years ago, and I have had normal paps ever since, so I am glad that I had it done!. You will have some cramping as you heal, this is easily alleviated with Motrin!.
