Aww, its so tough being a girl lol!
There are a few things you could do!
Try a higher absorbancy pad + tampon, and also change it more often (if you was leaving it 3 hours change it after 2 for example)
There are also night time pads, which are obviously designed to withstand leakage for a greater period of time!. You could try one of those, though they will probably make you feel as though you are wearing a nappy as they are so chunky :(
The good thing about it being so heavy on day 1 probably means you will have a very short or shorter period than normal!.
When you go bed, make sure you put a fresh towel/tampon or whatever you use at night right before bed, and sleep on a towel, that way if you DO leak in the night, the towel will catch most if not all of it!.

As for the pain, take paracetamol every 4 hours, keep a hot water bottle pressed to your stomach, a nice relaxing hot bath would also soothe!. I know it is the last thing you feel like doing, but gentle excercise helps too and you should finish feeling better than when you started!. Don't just excercise when your on though, excercising during the whole cycle can help!!

If this is a one off period, ie!. they aren't normally this painful/heavy, aslong as there is no chance you could have been having a miscarriage (remember lots of miscarriages take place before a woman even knows she was pregnant) then go to the doctors so they can check there is not an underlying reason for such a nuisance period!. If this is a regular occurance, I would still go to the doctor and ask for the pill!. Im on the pill and it works wonders, I can predict the exact day I will bleed, it is much lighter and my symptoms have pretty much disappeared!

Just a bit of advice - it is probably really obvious but try to avoid wearing white or light coloured jeans/trousers/shorts/joggers or whatever as obviously it is much more noticable to others should you leak and they are more likely to end up stained!.
Whenever your out, carry a spare pair of knickers and more towels/tampons than you need, just to help you feel more relaxed and should you need them, they're there!.

Finally, good luck, hope you are sorted soon! Every woman gets a period and most suffer for some reason, so youre not alone and shouldnt feel embarrased to talk to your mum or doctor or whoever!.
All the best x

Blimey, didn't mean it to turn out such an essay lol, sorry!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you changing your tampon!? That could cause it too leak and it could also cause pain!. Also, make sure that you remember to take one you have in out before putting a new one in!. I know that sounds stupid, but I know someone who accidently did that!.

To help with the pain, you can take an over the counter medication, use a heating pad, or maybe try a warm bath!. If the pain continues to be horrible the next time(s) you have it, talk to your doctor!. If it's causing you that much discomfort they might put you on birth control, just so you don't have to go through that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi lara, when you are young your periods do tend to be abit crazy, all I can say is dont worry, keep changing your pads and tampons as much as you can, in a day or two it should have calmed down!. Oh and take it easy, and my mother always told me not to do heavy lifting during a heavy period!.
plus take some paracetamol and put a nice hot water bottle on the area, plus I know you may not feel like it but walking helps!.
Also when I was younger i use to put geranium essential oil to my abdominal area and massaged it!.
Hope something there helps

I suggest calling a Gyno and making an appointment!. Many girls have heavy periods, but the doctor can give you options!. There are pills and other home remedies you can try!. Sometimes girls go on birth control to make their period a bit easier to deal with since the symptoms can be painful and annoying!. It is normal though and a lot of girls are in the same situation!. Your doctor can give you advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are soaking a pad and/or a tampon within an hour, then you need to see your doctor today!.

For period pains, use a hot water bottle and eat a banana (believe it or not they help)!. Use the hot water bottle for 5 minutes on your tummy then 5 on your back while laying on your side with your knees bent!. If that doesn't help, ask your mum for a pain reliever!.
