I hear you about the chiropractor!. I don't believe that "adjusting" the soft tissue of your back will fix your curve, and certainly not permanently!.

I think you'll continue to grow just fine!. Some of the growth may end up in your curve, but not much!. To tell how much height you've lost to the curve, pick a spot at the top and bottom of your spine and measure it with a tape!. Then run a string from the top to the bottom but follow the curve of your spine!. Straighten out the string and measure it!. The difference in the two measurements is the height you've lost to your curve!.

If you have surgery, you won't get all your height back, though!. How much depends on how flexible you are!. When your scoliosis specialist examines your back, bending left, right, and backwards will give your doctor an idea of how much curve can be recovered!. If your spine won't straighten out, forcing it to be straight will pinch nerves and possibly paralyze you!. So its far better to correct only as much as your spine can handle!.

Physical therapy!? It might be good to have some because it will teach you to keep your core muscles strong!. Strong core muscles can help keep you from having pain or if you're already in pain, help reduce the pain you have!.

The best doctor to see is a scoliosis specialist!. A doctor with out the specialty doesn't have the expertise to treat scoliosis!. It may take a bunch of phone calls, especially to your insurance company to see which ones take your insurance, but finding a good specialist will be the best thing for you!.

Yeah, scoliosis can affect your life!. How bad it gets depends on how many degrees your curve measures, though!. I've posted the following a few times for other people with questions!. I hope I'll answer the things that have you concerned!.

Scoliosis comes mainly in two flavors - functional (the curve is caused by another issue (uneven leg length for example) and structural!. There are two main kinds of structural scoliosis - congenital (present at birth) and idiopathic (unknown cause)!. It is important for you to know what kind you have!.

If you have functional scoliosis, a chiropractor may be able to help!. Shoe lifts may help with uneven legs, but there can be many causes of functional scoliosis!. I don't have much experience with functional scoliosis!.

If you have structural scoliosis, there's not a lot you can do!. The main treatments depend on how bad the curve is and how much more growth you have to go!. Its not possible to predict how much or how fast a curve may increase!.

You need to see a scoliosis specialist if you're not doing that already!. A doctor that is not trained as a scoliosis specialist doesn't have the expertise to treat it!.

Any curve under 10 degrees is considered normal and probably isn't monitored!.

Curves from 10-25 degrees are mild but should be monitored, especially if you're still growing!.

Curves from 25-40 degrees are moderate with bracing possible!. You will need monitoring, especially if you're still growing!.

Surgery may be recommended if your curve doesn't respond to bracing!. Bracing will do no good if you're through growing!. The purpose of a brace isn't to make your curve better, but rather to keep the curve from becoming worse!.

Curves greater than 45 degrees is major!. Surgery may be recommended!. This depends on many things, but whether you're done growing, whether your curve is increasing, whether your heart and lungs are in danger of being squeezed by your curve, whether you're in pain, quality of life, etc!.

If your curve is over 30 degrees, there is a good chance that it will increase even when you're through growing!. (Mine did!.)

Unfortunately, nothing can *fix* idiopathic scoliosis!. Surgery can keep the curve from getting worse, and in most cases, will reduce the curve but most likely your spine won't be straight (unless you are very flexible in the area to be fused, then you might be lucky)!.

Chiropractors, message therapists, acupuncturists, etc!., can't fix idiopathic scoliosis!. These people adjust the soft, connective tissues and that may (or may not, you can't tell ahead of time) make you feel better, but remember, idiopathic scoliosis is not a connective tissue disease!. Your spine is growing curved!.

I too have scoliosis, although I am a lot older than you!. There are different degrees of scoliosis!. If it is severe, there are braces that you can wear that will help it to straighten as you grow taller!. At 16, you are probably not going to grow much more!. I would suggest that you find someone who does Aston Patterning!. I have a Aston Patterner who has helped me tremendously!. I used to have one hip higher than the other and she has fixed that!. She is working on straightening my spine now!. It is a slow process, but can be accomplished!. And yes, you will probably get taller as you spine get straighter!. Good Luck to you honey!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly, how bad is the degree of curvature!?
It can be corrected with wearing a brace for a couple of years but may not be necessary!. Scoliosis is quite common these days!.
I was diagnosed with scoliosis (slight left hand curvature) at school in the 1970's!. I don't think it overly affected my growth as I still made it to 6'2!.

It also didn't stop me serving for 20 years in the regular army either!. Talk to your family doctor for a start, they know a lot more about it these days than they did when I was your age!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could definitley affect your height, if it isn't treated or anything like that, your spine will just continue to curve giving the appearance of a hunchback!. If it is corrected and you get straightened out then it may go back to normal!. Is wearing the back brace an option for you still!? Because if it is, you should do that, I know a 16 year old loathes that idea, but it would be best for your body and appearance in the future!. Good luck:)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a very small amount of it, very small, but my sister has a pretty bad curve!. You can actually see where one hip is higher than the other when she is standing in front of you!. It did not affect her height!. She is taller than me!. She's like 5'9" or 5'10"!. Good luck to you!.

Oh but I do know someone that had to have a metal rod put in her back because of it so it can get really bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Is there a Shriner's Hospital near you!? They will treat you and correct the problem no matter if you can pay or not!. My daughter went to Shriner's and they completely corrected her scoliosis for free!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it will NOT affect your life!!!
PLEASE start sitting up straight with your back straight and your chin up
IT WILL HELP ALOT
or if it is that serious, get a body brace that you wear underneath your clothing, uncomfotable but still helps
;)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yours can't get to serious!. How bad is the curve!? Many people never require a brace and surgery is the WORSE case scenario if the curve is over 40 degreesWww@Answer-Health@Com

calm down! scoliosis is not a big deal!. just wear a brace or get surgery to fix it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

see a kinieseologist thats way better than a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have scheuermann kyphosis, a common form of Scoliosis, mine is not very severe at all, you wouldn't notice if I didn't tell you!. Scolios is kinda a generalized term meaning any abnormal curvature of the spine, it can be caused by lots of issues!. I felt low self esteem about it even now when I go swimming but especially when I was 16, so I understand how you feel!.

Depending on the curve you might lose some height, I was told by the Doc I lost about 2-4 inches!.

I wish I would have had surgery when I was younger!. The surgery would keep me down for 6 months to a year and I have to work now, so its out of the question!. Be very careful about what doctor you choose!. Some of them won't do the surgery when you need it and some of them only prevent the curve from further curving!. HOWEVER there are a few doctors that can correct the curve!. Spinal surgery is one of the most serious surgeries you can have when it comes to recovery time and it can have risk such as paralization!. You can not correct the curve through exercise, you can only prevent it from curving more!. I have done a lot of research this is one of the best doctors for this!.!. Keith H!. Bridwell, M!.D!. here is the website http://www!.bridwell-spinal-deformity!.com!.!.!. I know it is in Saint Louis but you should really take this serious, if you need surgery!. It should be fine to see any spine doctor in your area just to get information!. There is also a huge scoliosis center in Texas that can correct spinal deformities!. It is Baylor Scoliosis Center!. Don't get depressed! you will be fine either way!.!. trust me!.

By the way Chiropractors should not be allowed to treat scoliosis or other spinal deformities, some states they aren't allowed to!. Be careful!. Some Chiropractors believe they can correct ALL diseases by manipulating your body and spine, though they certainly can benefit damaged spines due to accidents and such they can not cure all disease!.

You probably only have a slight curve and you should do exercises and be monitored by a REAL doctor either way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
