It's not comfortable, but the more you relax, the better it will be!. Usually, when you go, they will give you a paper sheet to lay over you when you are undressed so you feel a little bit covered!. The doctor will do a breast exam, and then a pelvic, feeling your ovaries through your stomach (gentle pressing) and with fingers inside you (gloved and lubed)!. The actual pap smear test is when the metal thing goes, and then they spread you open and stick like a long q tip in your cervix!. It is a bit of a pinch, but it will be over as soon as you know it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is nothing to worry about -smear test will benifit you in the long run!.
The smear test (cervical smear, pap smear) is a screening test which allows doctors to predict those women who are likely to develop cancer of the neck of the womb (carcinoma of the cervix) in time to prevent it developing!.

Procedure
The sample for the test is taken by a doctor or nurse, who examines you internally!. Sometimes this will involve you lying on your back, with your legs bent up and apart, and sometimes lying on your side with your legs bent up!.

The doctor or nurse may examine you internally, with a hand, but the smear test involves inserting a plastic or metal instrument (speculum) into the vagina, which holds the walls of the vagina open, so that they can see the neck of the womb (cervix)!. A wooden or plastic device (spatula), which is usually little more than a specially shaped lolly/popsicle stick, and/or a specially shaped brush is then stroked round the opening in the neck of the womb!.

You do not usually feel this, although the speculum may cause some discomfort, occasionally!. The spatula or brush is left with some cells from the surface of the cervix attached to it!. These are smeared on to a glass slide, which is treated with alcohol to preserve the cells, and sent off to a special cytology laboratory to be examined under a microscope!.

I hope this helped answer your questions!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

the doctor will first ak you some questions about your period and sex life, then she'll get you take of your pants and underware (she will give you a sheet to cover up with) she'll get you to lie down on the table and put your feet in stirups then she'll get you to separate your legs so she can see your genitals, first she'll examine the outside of your genitals, then she'll use her hand to separate the labia, and insert a speculum, it kinda looks like 2 spoons, it will open up the vagina so she can see inside and look at your cervix, she'll then take a swab of your cervix send it to the lab to look for abnormal cells, she will remove the speculum!. she'll then take two fingers (gloved of course) and insert them into your vagina, she will usually use lube to make them slide in easier!. once she's inserted her 2 fingers she will use her other hand to feel your abdomen, what she's doing is feeling the placement or you organs!.
make sure you tell her its your first time, she'll talk you through the whole thing, the most important thing to do is relax and it aon't be as bad, it really shoudn't hurt it will probably just feel uncomfortable
Good-luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I like Ms!. Presley's answer and also if you get it done at the health department it will save you a bit more money than going to a regular doctor and you'll most likely get a female nurse practitioner (just one more step from being a doctor) or a female doctor at these places!. Hope this helps and there's nothing to be afraid of! You'll feel some pressure from the procedures Ms!. Presley described and it just feels really weird having someone that close to your most private area!. Let the doc or nurse practitioner know that you are nervous and ask them to talk you thru it so there's no surprises as to what they're doing!. I hope this helps! And let us know how it went!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have nothing to be worried about!. It's just a little uncomfortable the first time!. It doesn't hurt just feels a bit weird!. Make sure your doctor that does it is someone your comfortable with!.!.!.i prefer a female doctor!.
The doctor is going to have you put your feet up in metal stirups like you're giving birth
and they're going to expand your vagina with a device, which doesn't hurt you'll just feel a little pressure!. Lube is used to insert it as well!.
Then they're going to check out your cervix wall with a flash light to make sure every thing looks normal and healthy!.
After that they'll do a smear test for std's which is just an all plastic toothbrush looking gadget they rub once in a circle in your cervix!.
and then probably a swab test to check that everything else is at the normal levels and production!.
after that the doc is will take out the device to stretch your vagina
and she/he will insert two fingers and at the same time press down on your lower stomach!. this checks for growths!.
and then you're done!.
it litterally takes 5-10minutes and is not bad at all!.
you'll be ok hun
don't be too nervous cause you'll make your vaginal muscles tighter!.
we all need to get them done!. No one likes them, but they're really easy and don't hurt!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They're not that bad!.!.!.but they are frightening in the beginning!. Depending on the doctor, they can be less or more painful as well!. I would suggest getting it from a gynocologist, they know what they're doing and they do it so often that they've become more acustomed to being gentle about it rather than your regular doctor!.

Basically the nurse will ask you why you're there, ask you if you know what a pap smear is and if you don't she will brief you on it as well as give you a printout of what they are, what they're for, etc!.

Then she will give you a sheet and ask you to take off your pants and panties (socks if you want to,I cant remember if I did)!. You will put the blanket on your legs to cover your area for when the doctor first comes in and she will talk to you a little, you can tell her that you're nervous and scared, she will try to make you feel more calm!

She'll get you to lay on the table and put your feet in these feet positioning thingies, kind of like when pregnant women give birth!. Its to get a better angle for doing the smear!. She will then take a metal thing that looks like a duck's beak and SHOULD put lube all over it as well as run it under hot water so its not uncomfortable!. My doctor never put lube on it so it killed, thats why i go see a gyno know instead of her!. She will insert it into your vagina!. Its really weird feeling and it creates like pressure because it opens up your walls, and its very unpleasant, I won't lie!. Then she takes a swab stick, which has tiny bristles at the top to gather the sample, she will go all the way up into your cervix and take the sample from there!. When my doctor originally did it, it scared the crap out of me and hurt so bad i was whimpering, But when the gyno did it, it wasnt half as bad as when my doctor had done it!. it feels a little uncomfortable, because you can feel it from inside of you but its definitely bearable!.

The whole procedure takes less than five minutes, its done very quickly and usually not that painfully!.

After your first time, you will probably feel awkward and confused and just like "whoa what the heck just happened", but your second time will be better because you will be more perpared and know what to expect!.

Oh, and after she gets the sample she puts it on one of those microscopic glass slides and sends it off to the lab to be examined!

The main thing is to try and remain calm, breath and let her know exactly how you're feeling! Don't be afraid to ask questions while she's doing it either, they're there to help!

Hope I helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The doctor will insert this weird duck beak looking thing in your vagina!. He will open it up, to spread you open, it doesn't hurt!. He'll go in with a q-tip looking thing, and scrape your cervix!. He'll send that off to the lab to get it checked out!. You'll get the results in a few weeks!.

That's it!. He might do a manual exam too!. He'll insert 2 fingers in your, and check your uterus and your ovaries!.

A little awkward, but it's fine!. My doctor was very nice, and gentle!. Let him know that you are nervous, and he'll talk you through it!.

Goodluck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

there is usually a nurse present, if not you can request one, you are asked to take off your knickers, pull your knees up, put your feet together then let your legs flop open, they then insert a metal thing that then opens to open you up a little, they then get like a big cotton bud and rub it around a little, a bit embarrassing but it is soon over, so make sure that you go, good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's a relatively pain free experience to start with!. You are asked to lie on your back with your legs bent and apart!. The nurse will insert a special instrument ( which is made of plastc and lubricated) into your vagina to open it up so that the neck of the womb, the cervix, can be reached with a small spatula type thing!. She will scrape a little of the cervix, so that some of the cells are collected!. Its more uncomfortable than painful and slightly undignified!. You may bleed a little after which is quite normal!.
You'll get the results in about six weeks!.
Dont worry or be scared, you'll be fine, promise xxxxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well they put a metal thing in your vagina to hold it open and they stick a swab up in there to get a small sample of your cervix!. It is uncomfortable because of the pressure, but the swab doesn't hurt and it takes about 10 seconds usually!. They do it really fast usually!. Good luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well personally i have never had one as I'm too young,
But we did do about it at school!.
Its basically A spatula like thing which gets inserted into the vagina and check for cervical cancer,It is out in a matter of seconds though!.

Just go to the docs do, as she asks,it's easy, won't hurt and it could save your life!.
No need to get graphic here!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

These are not nearly as bad as they sound! I have had several!. When you get into the room the nurse will go over the normal stuff with you, questions, blood pressure, weight, all that stuff, and then they will give you an outfit to put on and leave the room!. Take off all your clothes and put on your backless outfit and hop up on the table!. Don't worry they usually give you a little white blanket like thing to put over yourself!. When the doctor come in he/she will do a breast exam, by exposing and thoroughly examining each breast one at a time!. All the while they will talk to you and try to keep you assured and calm!. Then they will have you lay down on the bed, and he/she will do an abdominal exam!. Don't worry though, they will have you cover your bottom half with the blanket thing they gave you, and your upper half with your gown!. This is just a small series of pushing and feeling on your doctor's part, and not usually painful at all!. Now for the actual smear test!. He/she will have you scoot down as far as possible on the table and put your feet into the stirrups that are at the foot of the bed, then they will ask you to relax as much as possible, try your hardest to do this, because it will make it so much better for you!. They will take this cold metal tool and use it to open up your opening, this is the worst part, once they get that out of the way, your good!. Remember to relax, because that will ensure that it doesn't hurt!. Now the Dr!. will take a swab, like a q-tip, and swab your uterus, they do that 2-4 times, depending on how many they feel they need at the time, then they will remove the cold metal tool and insert their finger, now they do another abdominal test from both the inside and the out!. Sometimes they do this part before the actual smear, it can go either way!. Then its over! It really isn't a painful process, just uncomfortable!. One good thing to note is that sometimes after the smear you will bleed a little, its fine and normal so if it happens don't sweat it!. It is just from where they swabbed you uterus!. It really isn't as bad as people make it sound, just don't have unprotected sex for at least 2-3 days before the test, as the Dr!. can tell by the presence of sperm, and make sure you go and use the bathroom first, all that bladder pushing isn't good when you need to go! You'll do fine, just stay relaxed! Good luck and God bless! Www@Answer-Health@Com
