Question: How long after having had un protected sex do i have to wait to take an STD test!?
Argh i am so angry with myself!. I had a fling on holiday which i got back from last week, we didn't always use protection (when i was drunk)!. The times we used protection he had brought it with him (so i am hoping that he used protection with other girls) but then one night he only had 1 condom and once we'd used it we had sex again later without using one!. I know from a friend who goes to this place year after year and who knows the lad i slept with that he doesnt have loads of 1 night stands and im hoping that he has always used condoms with them!. Argh im stressing!! How long before i can have a full std test!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Call your doctor and they can give you precise information on when they will test you and think it is best!.
I would go pronto though!.
They might hold off though and have wait a week orr even twoso they can get accurate results for pregnancy too!.

Immediately and again at 6 and 12 months for HIV!. Be aware that urine tests for other stds are notorious for false negatives, so ask your healthcare provider about the repeat testing schedule for the different diseases!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know it takes at least 3 months for HIV to develop in a test!. So!.!.!. If that helps you any!. Next time, keep some condoms in your purse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should visit a gynecologist immediately!. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can be detected as soon as 1 week after exposure!. These bacteria can be asymptomatic in women, so you may never know you have them, but they can cause infertility if left untreated!.
Syphilis first develops as a chancre/sore/ulcer around 21 days after exposure!. This ulcer will usually appear in exposed areas like the genitals, mouth, or anus, but may appear in other places- so be on the lookout!. This ulcer will clear up on its own, but that doesn't mean that you're cured!. Within a few months, you'll likely develop a rash on your trunk, extremeties, and palms- the signs of secondary syphilis!.
All you need for those three bacteria is a course of antibiotics- so easy to cure!
Your doctor can also test you for HPV (the genital warts/ cervical cancer virus), HIV, and hepatitis viruses!. It takes a few months to develop detectable antibodies to these viruses, but please don't use that as an excuse not to see the doctor!. He/she will perform your testing and schedule follow up appointments as appropriate!.
Your doctor will also perform a pregnancy test!. Were you using any method of birth control!? Also- ALWAYS use a condom!. If you think there is even the slightest chance you might have sex- BRING THEM!. It is your responsibility to guard your own health by making your partner wear a condom!.
Also, FYI to an above poster- you can still get STDs in a married sexual relationship!. I've seen it happen to some of my patients!. Not the best way to find out your significant other is having an affair!. Protect yourself!.

You can get an std test as soon as you want!. However you will not know if you are truly "Clean" until 6 months from the exposure!. It can take your body as long as 6 months to develop in your body enough for a lab tech/ doctor to discover it!. So get an STD test next week and then get one 6 months later!. If the 6 month one comes up clean and you havent had sex since then, then you are fine!. I recommend getting one every year though if you do have sex!. Been there, done that, never will again!. Many of us have, but it's so stupid!.!.!. ALWAYS use protection!. (Personally walked away clean and clear, but I feel lucky!.) So many of my girlfriends have gotten something from someone they cared about who wasn't honest with them!. These aren't girls that sleep around!.

As someone else has mentioned, HIV and can take longer to show up in blood work-ups, so for those you'll may have to go back later on, to be re-tested if the doctor thinks it's necessary!. This is also the case with syphilis!.
