hi i am currently 18 years old and not sexually active!. i just wanted to know when i should go for my first pap smear!. i also wanted to know if it is painful and where I should go and have one *feeling uneasy*Www@Answer-Health@Com

many people will probably disagree with me - as this site is so pc but wait until you are sexually active and need to go on the pill, especially if you are fit and healthy!. Most people are nervous about it is not nice but when you go ask for a nurse to attend or a female doctor !. I personally didnt have mine until i was 25 after my 1st child i was sexually active from the age of 18!. You can also ask for valium if you are very anxious about same and it will help!. You should probably go and have one right about now!. A pap smear is a test that can detect abnormal cervical cells--sometimes (but not always) indicating cancer!. It's ok that you are not sexually active, you should still start getting an annual pap test anyway!. It is not painful at all!. It feels a bit weird, but it's a very fast test and before you know it, it's done!. You should go to an OB/Gyno for the test!. During the test, you will also have a breast exam done, and will be asked questions about your period!. Make sure you know when your last one was before the test!. Also one more note: Make sure you don't have your period at your appointment time or you will have to reschedule!. Hope this helps!. Good for you for taking care of your health! Go when you are comfortable!. If you are not sexually active, don't feel rushed to go and have it done!. When you decide you are ready, or do become sexually active, I suggest going once a year, as recommended!. I started going last year, at 19 (more because of the cervical cancer in my family's history)!. It is a bit uncomfortable, but not painful!. When you do have one done, it will feel a lot like period cramps more than anything!. Of course it is awkward, but remember that this will not be the first time your doctor's done one!.!.!.!.and trust me, you aren't the only person who feels this way - I did before my first one, as well!.

It is important for all women to have pap tests, along with pelvic exams, as part of their routine health care!. You need a Pap test if you are:
21 years or older
under 21 years old and have been sexually active for three years or more
There is no age limit for the Pap test!. Even women who have gone through menopause (when a woman's periods stop) need regular Pap tests!.
Pap smears are uncomfortable but do not hurt!.

18 is a good age to start cause cancer and other issues have no age limits!. it is quite uncomfortable but they will talk you through what they are doing!. after you have the first one they get easier over time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
