Those who have had, or do have Anxiety Disorder; Did medication help you?!

Question: Those who have had, or do have Anxiety Disorder; Did medication help you!?
I'm seriously considering medication but my family is a strong believer in the idea that mental issues can be overcome through perseverance!. So I'm at a loss!. I struggled with depression when I was younger and it's been a constant battle to fend it off since then, but I'm doing amazingly now!. However, I have always had panic attacks throughout my life!. They cripple some aspects of my life!. I feel like I'm having a heart attack, like the winds been knocked out of me, like I'm dizzy and going to faint, claustrophobic, hysterical, and every little noise or movement scares the crap out of me during a panic attack!. These attacks come on for almost no reason and they are just really frustrating!. I would honestly give anything for them to go away!. Everyone tells me to talk myself down!. That never works!. Breathing exercises help sometimes but mostly they don't!.

Did medication help you!?
If not, what did/does!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry hunny!. I've had anxiety for the past three years, and it's not fun at all!. I tried medication but for me it didn't work!. Instead, I meditated, read a good book, went for a walk, etc!. I even went and talked to a councilor about it, and that's helped immensely!.
However, just because medication didn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you!. Give it a try!. I don't understand the stigma around medication for mental illness!. If it works for you, that's great!.

My panic attacks would make me physically ill!. I completely understand what you're going though!. TONS of people go through what you're going through!. There's many online forums you can visit as well to talk to others who are experiencing the same thing you are!. They help too!.
Good luck xxWww@Answer-Health@Com

You need to disregard what your family thinks!. Its about YOUR mental health, and you need mediciation, look after yourself please!.

I try to perservere for years with anxiety and it wore me out, there's no shame in needing medication!.

If your family say that then ask them would they avoid taking aspirin for a headache or a stomach ache, etc, Im sure they wouldn't!. Mental health needs to be treated just as much as physical pains do, nevermind the stigma, do whats best for yourself!.

I worked in Iraq on a base that got hit with mortars about 5 times a day for a year!. When I went back home, I thought I was having a heart attack and all they symptoms you said and it was horrible!. They treated me in the ER and gave me 5 pills until I seen a regular doctor!. The pills did work, but they warned me that they could be addicting!. I'm scared of any pill other than motrin and tylenol so I took them only when I really needed them!. Sometimes I found that just talking to someone carrying on a happy conversation made the feeling pass!. I prayed!. I became freaking Martha Stewart but it really helped!. Needless to say I never did finish the 5 pills but it did take about 6 months to get over!. I wish you the best and hope you find something that works for you!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Our daughter found the temporary use of medications while she did the exercises teaching her to manage her social anxiety disorder quite helpful!. Her intention all along was to use them as little as possible!. Without the anti-anxiety meds, she simply could not do the exercises!.

Attitudes like your family's are common, and IMO mistaken!. If you couple medication with learning how to deal, from a competent professional, you may well learn how to 'talk yourself down,' whereas if you stay as you are, you will probably never improve!.

Meds alone are not the solution!. They're only a component!. You'd start with seeing a psychologist (not a psychiatrist)!. Your regular doctor can recommend someone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
