Anemia & heavy periods?!

Question: Anemia & heavy periods!?
Ok so im 25 years old and I think I have anemia!. My periods are quite heavy, well it's usually just big blobs that come out!. Usually when I start, the very first morning when im on it, I wake up (stand up) and blood goes everywhere & gets all over my underwear!. My doctor gave me iron pills, Ferrous Sulphate I have to take 3 everyday!.

Is it my anemia causing me to have heavy periods, and will the iron pills help it become lighter!?
Im already planning to have a baby soon , so I cannot be on the "Pill" !. What all questions should I talk to my GP about this when I see him !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You're anaemic because you have heavy periods not the other way around!. I used to have to take iron tablets too but I've just changed my diet and I eat a lot more iron rich veg just before I'm due on my period and for the first couple of days, that stops the anaemia symptoms e!.g!. tired and weak etc!. They say that after having a baby your periods become lighter, mine did a little bit!. Just ask you GP if there is anything that you can take to make you periods lighter but you MUST tell him that you're already planning for a baby so he doesn't give you anything he shouldn't!. Hope this helps and good luck with trying for a babyWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's the other way around!. Are you taking Vitamin C along with the iron tablets!? Vitamin C helps the iron to be absorbed into the body!. BTW it's much cheaper to ask for iron sulphate from the chemist than to pay for it on a prescription!. I wonder if you have been on the pill!? Sometimes things take a long time to settle down when you come off it!. In my experience iron tablets don't make a difference with the blood loss but they help in other ways - I was dizzy, tired and pale!. Hopefully your planned baby will be on the cards soon and everything will settle down!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, your heavy periods are causing you to be anaemic!. Anaemia is low levels of iron in the blood, which is being lost in your period!. Your heavy periods are causing you to lose too much iron and the iron tablets will replenish the lost iron but it will not change your periods!. Ask your GP if there are any other options for your heavy periods!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

why do you think you have anemia, have you had the blood tests done!? your period blood is not the same source of blood that makes you anemic, your just having a heavy period, i had heavy periods when i was heavier in weight, now i have lost weight my periods are light and easy to control!. i am also pernicious anemic and get b12 injections every 12 weeks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

unfortunately the ferrous sulphate won't ease the periods, you're anaemic because of their heaviness, and not the other way around!. Best thing to do is to ask the doctor if something like tranexamic acid would work, as this helps stem the flow and reduce the amount lost!.
