Loestrin birth control question?!
Question: Loestrin birth control question!?
My dr prescribed this to me and said to take it right away (like the day he prescribed it) !. I read that it should be taken the sunday after your period starts!. Which should I follow!? He said that it takes a month to take effect anyway and for that first month I should use condoms!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If the Doctor has prescribed Loestrin 20 to you (as opposed to Loestrin 30) it's a pill which is much lighter in oestrogen!. Less oestrogen helps with all the common side effects that you sometimes get from taking the contraceptive pill, like putting on weight etc!. However, some women find that the amount of oestrogen in Loestrin 20 is not enough to work as a proper contraceptive pill (everybody's different)!.
I think some Doctor's are quite cautious that you should use extra contraception when you start loestrin 20, IN CASE you are one of the people whose menstrual cycle is not properly controlled by it!.
You should start taking it straight away!. If you experience menstrual bleeding while you are taking it (ie, if you get your period despite taking the pill) then loestrin 20 isn't right for you!. After two weeks, if you experience no menstrual bleeding then it's working for you and you can stop using condoms!. If you want to be extra safe, wait a month!.
If you are taking loestrin 30, it should take effect in a week, and you shouldn't have any of the problems above!.
