Contraceptive Implant (implanon)?!

Question: Contraceptive Implant (implanon)!?
Hiya, I have been with my partner for 7 months, we haven't had sex yet, but I am thinking of having the contraceptive implant rather than the pill!.
I have a few questions:
Am I allowed to choose the implant over say the birth control pill!?
I've read the implant is injected into your upper arm, is it clearly visible to other people!?
Does anyone have experience with the implant!?
Is it painful to be injected, I read "A small operation under local anaesthetic is needed to insert the implant under the skin!.", does this mean I have to go into hospital!? Or can my doctor do it!?

Sorry about all the questions and thanks for any help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have an implant, and yes, you can chose whichever contraception you want, although they will give you advice on what's best for you!. If you do chose the implant, it is fairly easily inserted!. I had it done at the family planning clinic, I dont think you'll need to go to hospital!. The whole process took around 30 mins, this included time to tell me all about it and answer any questions!. the actual "operation" took around 5 mins!. They inject your arm with local anasthetic, let it freeze, then make a small incision, around quarter of a centimeter!. They then insert the small rod, which looks similar to a matchstick!. No stitches are needed, a bandaid was applied, and it heals quickly!. You may be bruised afterwards, but that heals very quickly too!.

You can see the rod if you look for it!.!.!. pressing on one end of it gently will raise the other end so you can see where it is, but it is small enough that no-one will notice it at all unless you tell them and show them where it is!. It is very inconspicuous!. You are protected from pregnancy as soon as it is implanted, and will last for 3 years, when you can go back and get it changed!. Again, it's a very small and simple procedure to change it, a small incision at the end of the rod, and they use tweezers to pull it out, and insert another one!. Simple enough!.

I would recommend it, I've had no problems with it, and I'm on my second one!. Good luck with whatever you choose!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I have Implanon, but I've only had it for a few months!. Here's what I can tell you:

Yes, you can choose it over the pill, that is what i did!.
To insert the implant they cut a tiny slit, less then half a centimeter big, in your upper inner arm and insert it along with your muscle!. You cannot see mine!. The only way you would know that it is there is if you touched it!.
The only pain that i felt was for the anesthetic, and a little soreness afterward for about a week or so!.
It's a good idea if you are a college student, or you just don't want to worry about birth control for three years!.
I got this treatment because I can be very forgetful and taking the a pill once a day didn't seem ideal for me!.

The only thing i would say is that you might experience irregular periods, its a very common side effect and I have been experiencing it myself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am afraid although many women swear by it, it one of my least favourite methods of contraception!. It is reasonably easy to insert but slightly more difficult and uncomfortable to remove!.

I don't believe it should ever be a first choice method!. It is designed to be used long term, 3 years +!. Most women on initial insertion get 3 months of dysfunctional (erratic) bleeding, which may be continuous!. In a few this may extend to as long as 6 months!. The problem is if it is inserted and you don't get on with it it has to be quickly removed!. Better to try a shorter acting progesterone contraceptive method first to see how you feel on it!.

Cerazette, the newest of the progesterone pills would be a good option, even trying a single depot injection of Depo-provera might be a more suitable option as at least it wears off on its own, though this does take 3 months!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I love this contraception!. I have had it for 4 months now and haven't had a single period yet! It's brilliant!.
I had it done at my GP surgery and it took about 15 mins!. They inject local anaesthetic and then insert the small rod into your upper arm!. It isn't really visible to other people as it's on the inside of your upper arm but you can feel it through the skin!.
The great thing about the implant is that it lasts for 3 years and your fertility comes back immediatley after it is removed!. You don't have to remember to take the pill everyday and it is one of the most reliable forms of contraception!.
Some people experience spotting and intermittent bleeding in the first few months and others have none at all and their periods stop!. I haven't had any spotting or a period and feel so much better than I did when I was on the pill!.
I would recommend this form of contraception, I have experienced no negative side effects whatsoever!.
