The other posters are correct in that if prevents ovulation and thickens cervical mucus!.

As for whether its an abortion-agent, that's a hotly debated topic even amongst pro-life physicians!. I did a lot of research myself and decided that I was ok with it morally!. Here's the theory!.!.!.

A secondary effect of BC is that it thins the uterine wall!. So IF you ovulated and IF sperm made it through AND fertilized the egg, BC might have thinned your uterine wall to the point that the egg wouldn't implant!. If you think life truly starts when the sperm hits the egg, then if bc works this way then you are preventing implantation (much like plan B) and I'd argue you're terminating a life!. However, from the research I read, they're only certain that the uterine wall is thinned when BC successfully stops you from ovulating!. I think that if you do ovulate, that overrides BC's ability to thin your uterine wall and an egg can implant!.

My husband was also conceived on BC, so I know it can't prevent implantation every time!. We decided to stay on it since I have other health problems that BC helps!. But its a very individual decision!. I don't think BC harms the baby if you've already conceived!. Its just hormones that kind of fake out your body to think its already pregnant so I don't think that has an impact on fetal development!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most birth control pills contain estrogen and progesterone to prevent ovulation!. They also thicken the mucus around your cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to reach your egg!.

Sometimes the hormones can affect the uterus lining and make it difficult for an egg to attach itself to the uterine wall!. Depending on your view as to when life begins, it could be seen as causing an extremely early abortion!.

You'll have to ask your doctor how your pill prevents pregnancy!. If you're *really* against this, use a barrier method along with the pill to prevent any likelihood of conceiving in the first place!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no evidence the pill will harm a foetus!. You're not supposed to ovulate while taking them!. It suppresses ovulation and also thickens the cervical mucus so sperm can't get through!.

There is the possibility of ovulation happening anyway, usually if you miss a pill or more, and in that case, if the egg gets fertilised (again unlikely) the pill would stop it from implanting!.
