When will I be protected on ortho tricyclen lo?!

Question: When will I be protected on ortho tricyclen lo!?
I have been getting mixed responses!. I started taking the pill the day I got my pack, roughly a week before my period was going to start!.
1) My clinician told me if I started then, I would be protected in 7 days!.
2) The packet that comes with the birth control says 7 days (with a Sunday start)!.
3) The planned parenthood information sheet says 10 days!.
4) I've heard two weeks, one month and three months!.

I had sex after 9 days, and I've never been on birth control before!. When will I be protected, or am I!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You probably are "protected" but it is advised to use back up for the first three months of BC because not every thing is regulated yet!. The problem with having sex within this time frame is that your periods may be irregular and very very light - you might even miss your next period!. So, this means you won't know if it is a change in hormones caused by the BC or because you are pregnant!.

Since it is pretty much too late and no one really knows until you get (or don't get!?) your next period, I think you should discuss this with your DR/Gyno and discuss your options!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should always use a condom, as pills do not prevent STDs and AIDS/HIV!.

You should use protection for at least one month to be safe!. Even then, you are only 99% protected!. ANY TIME you have sex you can get pregnant, as the only 100% effective method is abstinence!.

I would trust your clinician and the packet, but you may want to wait 10 days just to be safe!.
The other amounts probably didn't come from reliable sources, so disregard them!. You should be fine after 7 days, but again, if it bothers you, wait 10!.

Good luck :]Www@Answer-Health@Com

First, use a condom two just to make sure its really safe!. But i'm not completely sure on how long!.!. But the person who will have the correct answer, will be your doctor!.!. So I suggest you go back there and tell your doctor your story, and they will tell you if you are safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Rule of thumb is have protected sex the 1st pack as the pills may throw off your cycleWww@Answer-Health@Com
