Well I don't know how people say its bad, its part of the nature, and I think is normal, GOD created man and woman same, anyway, I think I go a little bit far from my answer, well my dear if you have 40 and you aren't married and you don't have boyfriend its fine!.
Masturbation is like have sex with yourself you know!? then if you sleep with someone you will be more open to the chances to please him and please you, but at your 40s I don't certainly think is about your hormones, but if you have a problem then maybe it is!.
