Anaemia in Pregnancy?!

Question: Anaemia in Pregnancy!?
Does anybody know if anaemia suffered in pregnancy can extend and go on even after the baby is born!?

I was anaemic in both my pregnancies, and despite my youngest being 6 months now, I still have the same symptoms that led to the diagnosis!. I am absolutely shattered - I realise two kids tire you out, but I wake up tired, no matter how long I've slept!

Will the Dr just prescribe more Iron tablets - or could there be another cause for how I'm feeling!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ha ha Aurora I feel performance anxiety now lololol!.!.!.!.!.

I know for a fact it can hang around for years following childbirth as it did for my friend wasn't until; her hair had visibly thinned quite badly did the GP do more than keep giving iron tabs!.

The thing about Iron tabs is to be aware of the things affecting absorption!. For instance I believe tea prevents it from being taken up by the body!.!.

There is another mineral you can take with the tabs to increase the absorption but go to the GP to get it all explained properly!. Or a pharmacist , book one of those consultations in the little rooms they have now, they are often able to offer much more time than your GP and would prob be made up to see a young woman instead of a pensioner looking for laxative advice!

BTW under active thyroid is another common one in the 1st 12 months of giving birth!. Of course it could just be you are raising two kids under the age of 2 on your own as well as going to college :-) Any chance Nanny Kat Kat could have kids overnight so you can sleep!? xWww@Answer-Health@Com

I was anaemic in pregnancy too because I had my children too close together!. They gave me iron pills but these don't actually work as the body is incapable of absorbing iron that way!. All they do is upset your tummy!.

Eventually the midwife whispered to me to go and buy Floradix which worked like a dream!.

Also, you can adjust your diet to help your iron absorption!. For instance, eat beef and drink orange juice together!.

A word of caution though, if you overdose on iron it can damage your liver so get regular testing if you are going to take supplements!. To give you an idea, my iron count was up to normal within three weeks of taking Floradix!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is not that uncommon for anemia to be a, "hanger-onner!" Often times your doctor will recommend that you continue taking your prenatal vitamins for a year after giving birth!. Ask your doctor about this, they are really the best vitamin you could take at this time!. Also, I'm sure you already know, adjust your diet to include iron rich foods!. Lot's of green leafy veggies and some red meat, (if you like it!.) Hang in there, it takes you body a good year or more to get back to normal after giving birth!

* Remember to eat foods not just rich in iron, but those that will help you absorb the iron:

Meat/fish/and poultry
Oranges and orange juice
Cantaloupe
Strawberries
Grapefruit
Broccoli and brussel sprouts
Tomato amd tomato juice
Red and green bell peppersWww@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds most definitely anaemia, and yes it can last after the baby's birth!. There is a simple blood test you GP can do that will show your haemoglobin levels!.

Tiredness can be due to low iron, it can also make you feel a bit grumpy too, short on patience!. So ask for the test it is worth it and if your blood iron is low then you should be having an iron supplement!.

Edit!.

Where's Haz when she's needed!? She'll know!. :-- ))Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your mind and body are physically exhausted after all that hard work of creating two live human beings in such a short time!. You also might have a little bit of postpartum depression!.I know when I get depressed I sleep alot!. But your doctor knows best!. Wish u luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can be anaemic for any length of time!. Try eating things like rocket and spinach as they have a lot of iron in them!.

You could just be tired out, you have two young children!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
