Very scared - smear test results?!

Question: Very scared - smear test results!?
ok, so here's the deal!.

i;m 26 and 2 weeks ago i have my 1st smear!. Letter today says that "abnormal cells" have been detected and i will soon receive an appointment to get this checked out!.

I put off having a smear for ages because I was embarrassed about the procedure!. I went this time because I gave birth 15 months ago so figured nothing is more embarrassing that that!!

I know I shouldn't worry but you see if I have never had a smear before this one I don;t know what state these cells are in!.

ANy reassurance would be great!.
My mum died of cancer in her 30s (not cervical) and I am terrified of leaving my daughter without a mother!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly please try to relax slightly, easier said than done I know!. Secondly it is very common to be recalled, abnormal cells can mean a lot of different things, if you had an infection it could show up, if they didn't get enough cells, if you had any bleeding etc, etc!. The most important thing is you did go for a smear, and whatever they found it is still early!. cervical smears are vital to have as cancer of the cervix is generally very slow growing, and cells changes and abnormalities show up years before cancer sets in (Jade Goody was very unfortunate to have a virulent form of the disease, fortunately it is very rare)!. With your mum dying from cancer it is important that you get checked out for the cancer and related cancers she died from, ie maybe ask your doctor about a BRAC test!. But loads of women get called back, and even if the cells are beginning to change if caught early they are easy to treat, and should leave no affect on your fertility!. Good luck xxWww@Answer-Health@Com

calm down, you probably just have a infection!. but you probably had a smear when you went in for your first prenatal visit and just didn't know it, checking for cervical cancer is routine when you are pregnant so even if you didn't know it you have had a test in the last few yearsWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi there!. I totally understand what your going through!. I had my first smear test in March and it was abnormal and I had to go back and have another one 6 months after the first which was September, I got my results yesterday and they are abnormal still, So im going to hospital to have a colposcopy which lets the doc see the type and area of the cervix!. Im so afraid and just been crying all the time, everyone tells me it will all be okay etc but like you I worry, i worry to much! This examination defines the type of and extent of h abnormal area on the cervix and the results will show what treatment i need!. They can take a biopsy as well if they need to!. There are stages of CIN, 1-3!. 1=only a third of the cells in the affected area are abnormal or may be treated depending on the doc opinion!. Im CIN at the mo! I think!. 2=means that up to two thirds of the cells are affected!. treatment is needed for cells to return to normal!.
3=all the cells in the affected area are abnormal!. treatment will be needed!. Only rarely will a biopsy show cell changes that have already developed into cancer!.
That's just to let you know everything hunnie!. I keep Reading it myself and I know it doesn't help when people say your be okay as you do worry but apparently most cells go back to normal themselves!.
Hope everything goes okay for you as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't panic!. A huge number of women have abnormal cells and there are many reasons for this!. About 1 in every 12 women has abnormal cells so you are not alone!. If the cells are mild, there is a good chance they will revert back to normal and you won't need any treatment at all, however if they are moderate or severe, then further investigation will be needed and they may have to be burnt off!. It can take years for cell changes to become cancerous, so do not panic!

Look at it this way, you would of had abnormal cells whether or not you had a smear!. At least now you know they are there, they can get sorted out and let you continue your life with your baby!.
