I am wanting both breasts removed?!

Question: I am wanting both breasts removed!?
I have decided for many reasons I want my breasts removed!. I have been on the waiting list for 11 years for breast reduction surgery, and my surgeon has basically told me it'll never happen (just the way the health system is where I am and lack of plastic surgeons)

Anyhow I'm going to tell my GP next week, but want to know - If I want them off, can they refuse doing this!? I mean it's my body right!.

I've had my children and have a loving man and he's all for it also!.

Have you heard of anyone else doing this!?

Serious answers only please - this is no joke!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have heard of women electing for a double masectomy because they have the "breast cancer" gene (they can identify the risk gene now) and they have had several family members (sister/mother/aunt) who have died or been diagnosed with breast cancer!. Obviously I have also heard of it in sex change operations, but I'm assuming that this is not your reasoning!. I would imagine that you will be required to see a counsellor and have some psychological testing to establish that there is not underlying psychopathology behind your decision!. If you get the all clear and the psychologist feels you have valid reasons for requesting such radical surgery, and you can find a surgeon willing to do it, then you should be able to proceed!. I would suspect though that unless there is a very strong medical/psychological reason for it, then you may just sit on another waiting list again!. I assume you have but you also need to think of all the implications though, on your sex life, ability to find clothes that fit, cosmetically (you will have big scars), others peoples reaction to you, what your children will understand from it and what impact it will have on them, their feelings about their own bodies etc etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Of course they can refuse!. You can't demand that they participate in anything elective!. A person could get it into their heads that they want their perfectly healthy legs amputated, but just because it's their body doesn't mean they can compel doctors to grant their wishes!.

Doctors are also legitimately afraid of lawsuits, from patients who come to regret the surgery they claimed to desperately want, after it can't be undone!.

It will never happen, I have heard of this before, but no MD, and I know alot of them, in his right mind would ever perform this, because of the liability!. The job would look botched and he would lose his reputation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it works for you and your family, go for it!.

Though you might want to consider a reduction rather than complete removal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had a breast reduction nearly 20 years ago!.!.!. I hate my breasts still to this day!. I was left with bad scarring and painful breasts!. I understand that the surgery was still "newish" then, but I'm with you!. I have done what I wanted to with them in my life and now it is time for them to go!. My reason is that there is such a huge background of breast cancer, that I'd just as soon say goodbye to them!. And, I think that might be a really great "pitch" to your GP!.!.!. let him know if there is a family history of cancer or if your family history is unknown, let him know that, too!. A co-worker of mine had both hers removed in the last 2 years!. I don't know why they did one at a time, but the reasoning behind it was that there was the strong chance that she would get breast cancer because she tested positive for the gene!. She is happily married with two terrific girls!. Her husband has been such a great support for her!.

Good luck and I hope you are able to get what you want and what you need!! Angels of support to you!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
