Answers:
During a smear test, some cells are taken from the cervix!. These are sent to a laboratory for examination under a microscope!. To be able to judge the cells properly, this is best done in the middle of your menstrual cycle, halfway between one period and the next!.

The doctor or nurse will insert an instrument called a speculum into the vagina to allow them to see the cervix!. A spatula is then wiped or scraped over the surface of the cervix to remove some cells, which are then transferred to a glass slide!. The doctor or nurse may also do an internal examination to check for any problems!.

The procedure can be uncomfortable but shouldn't be painful!. Try to relax!. Talk to the doctor or nurse if you're worried!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

During a smear test you'll usually sit or lie on a doctor's examination bench, most likely with your ankles in "stirrups" - basically to lift your ankles and part your legs!. Your practice nurse will insert an instrument into your vagina to dilate your cervix, then will swab your cervix to take a sample of the cells to see if there are any abnormalities - they can detect pre-cancerous changes very early on!. The swabs are sent to a lab to be checked and your doctor will receive the results a week or so later!. If there is something unusual about the cells they'll call you back for a fresh test, but it doesn't always mean there is something wrong!.

It recommended that sexually active females are tested regularly - usually every 3 years once you're over 25!.

I won't lie to you - it is VERY uncomfortable and you may ache a little afterwards, my first one hurt (but not excessively so) but the later ones were fine!. If you've been recommended to have one, get it over and done with!Www@Answer-Health@Com

A smear test is to detect pre-cancerous cells in the cervix!.

It is an internal examination!. You'll be asked to lay on a couch, a blanket will be provided so you can cover yourself until the Dr/Nurse is ready to perform the smear!.

All that happens is a speculum (which is usually lubricated, can me metal or plastic) is inserted gently into your vagina, and gently opened so your cervix can be viewed, a swab stick is the lighty scraped along the cervix to take sample of the cells!. This is then sent away for testing!. The whole procedure is over very quickly and once you have had one, the ones that follow after should be a lot less bothersome!.

Most women describe smear tests as being uncomfortable rather than painful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A nurse or doctor will take a small swab of the cells on your cervix!. It will involve a small contraption being inserted up you but it really isn't that bad!. They will take that swab away to a lab and test the cells for any abnormalities!. You really shouldn't worry and definately get it done!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I see someone put that you should go every 3-5 yrs and that is clearly wrong!. its every year and you should begin to go when you have been sexually active or by the time you are 18!. which ever comes first!. if u were to wait 3-5 yrs to go again after the first time a serious problem could develop such as cervical cancer and it could get pretty bad i imagine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Pap smear is when you get a pelvic exam, and they use a spatula type thing that scrapes the cells from the wall of your cervix!.
It tells if you have any venereal diseases, or cancer cells, etc!.
Women get them once each year!.
By the way, the scraping doesn`t hurt!. The stupid metal instrument they insert then crank it open to do the smear isn`t so great though!.
Nothing that`s too bad!. No biggie!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A smear test is to check for cervical cancer, they will swipe a swab of inside your vagina and carry out appropriate checks!.

They are only usually required if you are sexually active!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
