I have Paragard, which is the non-hormone version of Mirena, but the basics are pretty much the same!.

As far as getting it put in- it's easier if you're on your period (icky, but easier) because your cervix is more pliable!. They'll check your uterus to make sure it's big enough to accommodate the IUD (most women are, and usually the doctor can tell by doing a basic pelvic exam, but my luck I was on the small side and she actually had to measure, which was not pleasant)!. Then the doc will use a rod to hold your cervix open and insert the IUD!. It's not comfortable (mine was actually quite a bit painful), but it's over relatively quickly- I think mine was inserted in about ten minutes total!.

You might cramp up for a couple days, and you'll have to keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't fall out!. They'll tell you how to check your strings and all to make sure it stays in place properly!. I'm 24, and I've had my IUD about six months now, and I really couldn't be happier with it- after almost ten years on the pill, this is so much easier I wish I would've done it years ago!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm on my 2nd Mirena IUD!. The doc will do a pap smear, pregnancy test, and it's supposed to be inserted within the first 5 days of your period!. Someone at doc's office should explain everything!. When I had my first mirena put in it was really uncomfortable for me and I had really bad cramps for 3-4 days after; I had it for 2 years before it fell out!. I recommend it over any other birth control method!. My favorite thing about it is the fact that I don't have a period while using it!. Hope I helped!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

When you go into plan parenthood they will explain everything,
Birth Control pills balances out your hormones basically!.
You start taking the pill when the doctor or what not tells you to, and go from there!.
They'll tell you everything!.
and if you are going to plan parenthood then I doubt they'll bring you to a doc, but i dont know that for sure!.
Just ask them and they'll answer all of your questions :)

No you probably won't get your periodWww@Answer-Health@Com

Too bad the previous person called it birth control pills!.!.!.!.it's an IUD!. I don't think it's an issue to have one placed while you have your period!. They will only give it to you if you are in a monogamous relationship and will ask many questions!. If you haven't had kids I don't know if they will let you have it! They put a speculum in your vagina and a long metal rod in to open your cervix and place the IUD in your uterus!. There will be long strings that feel like fishing line and you will be able to feel them with the tip of your finger!. You have to check for the strings after every period to make sure that it didn't get expelled while you had your period!. One month after you have it placed you have to return to the dr and make sure its still in the right place!. DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE CHOOSING THIS BIRTH CONTROL!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
