I have had the mirena for two years now (had it put in when I was 19, now 21), and I personally love it!. did LOADS of research on it before I decided to go for it, so I can tell you a bit about it!. I'll do you some pros and cons!. First, pros:

It is the most effective form of temporary contraception there is, basically being as effective as sterilisation, percentage-wise!. Also of course you don't have to remember to do anything to make it that effective yourself, so it's very relaxing to have!. Unlike the non-hormonal IUD, it gradually lightens bleeding patterns over time, with some women actually stopping having periods all together (I'm one of those lucky ones) because of the fact that it releases small amounts of progesterone directly into the womb, which prevents or reduces the lining building up!. Because the amount of progesterone is much smaller than any other hormonal contraceptive and is relased directly into the womb, the chances of side effects like spottiness, breast tenderness etc are much lower!. And when you remove it, your fertility returns to normal pretty quickly, or you can also choose to have another one put straight back in wich is nice!. Plus of course the sexual benefits - sex can be very spontaneous and feels a little nicer with no rubber jacket ; )

Now the cons!. I'm not going to list all the possible side effects as I'm giving you my own experience of it, but suffice to say there can be some hormonal side effects as there are with any form of contraception which is at least partly hormonal!. It's much rarer with Mirena, and even if you do get them they usually last only a short time at the beginning, since the dosage is so low!. I have added a link to the bottom of this post which will tell you all about these in detail, but I personally have not experienced any!. The big risks to watch out for are increased risk of infection and perforation of the womb!. Both of these are most likely in the first one-three months, This is mostly because the insertion process is a bit invasive (more of that later)!. It's actually really rare for perforation to happen, and if you're tested beforehand, are careful and are in a long term relationship, the chances of infection are low too but obviously it's a risk that's worth taking seriously!.
I didn't have any of those problems!. The cons from the perspective of an ideal case are pretty simple!.
1!. It hurts when they put it in, I'm not going to lie to you!. It's like ridiculously sharp, intense period pain for a few moments, and then feels very tender and achy for several hours afterwards!. I was fine by the next day though!.
2!. for the first few months, your bleeding patterns will go haywire and you may get a few cramps as your body adjusts to having this new thing inside it!. I just had a lot of spotting for a couple of months, but it can be worse for some people!. It DOES reduce within about three to six months though, and will be much lighter than before, so for me it was worth it!.
3!. and this is a bit of an intimate one which you probably won't find in most information packs!.!.!. it can change sex slightly!. I find that in positions that shorten the passage (i!.e doggy style, anything with your legs drawn up) and if the thrusting is hard, having an IUS means it's much more intense, like the force is being transferred through the womb by the IUS!. There is no chance of damage from this at all (I checked), and some people like it, but if I don't build up to it it can be too much for me and be uncomfortable!. All it takes is a little more gentleness on his part!. I don't know whether this is the same for everyone, that's just a personal experience!. My friend notices something similar but she likes it!. Last word on how it effects sex is that the cords that hang down from it are quite stiff and can rarely poke his penis if they're cut to the wrong length!. Ideally they should be quite long, so they can curl up around your cervix out of the way, in which case he won't even notice it!.

All in all, I would definitely recommend you give it a go, not least because unlike the injection, if it doesn't agree with you they can just take it out!. I suppose the worst case scenario with the mirena can be worse than with most contraception, but it's a rare scenario and I think the possible benefits make it well worth a try!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have the iud without the hormones so its not mirena!.!.!.!. but i mean i like it because im hormone free ive been on it for 2 yrs now yes at first the cramps are bad and u bleed heavily however eventually it gets better!.!. i think it jus depends on ur body and wat u think about hormones in ur body!.!. the iud i have lasts upto 10 years the mirena is 5!.!.!. bw im 21!.!.!. and have 2 kids already so yea u shud defintely get on something because its tough with kids (im also in college) anyway best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was on the depo shot from age 15 til I turned 23! that was wayyyy tooo long to be on it! It caused so many problems for me! bcoz of the shot I now have problems with my bones! not to mention all the cramping, weight that wont go away! headaches, mood swings!, etc! yea it sounds just like i'm just pmsing! but really its worse then that! i can off and less then a month later i found out i was prego, with my 2nd son!.

i was a jackass and after i had him i was too scared to get my tubes ties so i went back on the depo shot! for 3 months! it was time for my next shot, and i talked to the dr, and he suggested mirena! it sounded sooo great!
turns out it wasnt so great! i had the same side effect, debillating cramps, headaches that would last for days!, mood swing worse then ever! my body just hurt! i had UTI's all the time! and as i said b4 my bones just went what the dr's called it was soft! and still to this day i have problems!

in 2005 i got my tubes tied, since then i've been better, but my bones are still a mess my periods are just terrifing! painful, headaches still! after alotta testing i was told all this is bcoz of the depo shot, and mirena!

i wouldnt suggest these forms of BC to anyone!! not even a baby doll! i know every women is different but i still wouldnt recommend this to anyone!!!! i'm still paying for it years later!Www@Answer-Health@Com
