A pap smear is something that is included in a pelvic exam!. Normally the person performing the exam palpates the ovaries (they basically stick what they can of their hand up your vagina and then feel the top part of your stomach to check for cysts or inflammation; believe me, it's not as bad as it sounds; everything moves along quite quickly and you'll barely notice they're doing anything)!.

Prior to that, they may insert a speculum, which opens up your vaginal canal, and swab your cervix to check for any abnormal cells or signs of disease!. That is the Pap smear portion of the pelvic exam!. Again, it's a really fast procedure and you'll barely feel it!. And you don't necessarily have to reschedule your appointment if your period comes!. The only reason for this would be because the test results may come back abnormal when everything actually is normal so they'll just have to end up retesting you (the menstrual blood can mess the results up)!.

Since you're going for birth control, they will do a Pap smear because it's checking for cervical cancer!. When you take hormonal birth control, the risk for cervical, ovarian, and breast cancer go up!. I had a full pelvic exam, pap smear and breast exam because they're establishing a baseline and making sure you're a good candidate for hormonal birth control!. This will help them in determining if anything is changing for the worse in the future!. You will have to get a Pap smear done for each year you take birth control, regardless of your age!. Sometimes you have to do this before they will even write the prescription but it's no big deal and it's all apart of being healthy and responsible!.

So, don't worry!. You'll be fine and it'll be a quick visit!. :) Www@Answer-Health@Com

A pelvic exam is just the same as a pap smear its just a nicer way of saying it!. If you are on your period you will have to reschedule!. The questions that are going to be asked are pretty straight forward and simple!. Just be honest that way you should get on the right birth control for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The pelvic exam is the same as a pap smear!. The chest exam will involve the DR feeling your breasts for any abnormal lumps!. If your period begins before your appointment, you should call and let them know and find out if they want you to reschedule!. Chances are they will do the exam anyway!. Good luck! I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A pap smear is required in order to get birth control!.

A pelvic exam is a pap smear!.

It will be the same as any other GYN exam!.

It is in your best interest to reschedule if you get your period before the exam!. The blood will cause odd results sometimes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
