Hot flashes at the age of 20?!

Question: Hot flashes at the age of 20!?
I'm only 20 years old, but I've been getting hot flashes-- this intense hot feeling from my face and neck, that lasts around 2 minutes!. Also, I haven't had my period for 3 months, but I'm not pregnant!. Any suggestions why this is happening!? Thank you very much!.

I appreciate all opinions!Www@Answer-Health@Com

How odd!. Low levels of estradiol in menopausal women cause hot-flashes!. This is believed to be caused by low estrogen acting on the hypothalamus that regulates body temperature (Ref 1)!. In the hypothalamus, norepinephrine release causes a rise in body termperature!. Normally, estrogens acts to inhibit the release of norepinephrine to regulate hypothalamic response!. When there is low estrogen, norepinephrine is unopposed and temperature level increases!.

You mentioned that you haven't had a period for 3 months (not due to pregnancy), which indicates a dysregulation of estrogen in your body!.

Other possible endocrine disorders causing your problem would include pituitary dysfunction (like in Sheehan syndrome or hypopituitarism), or a thyroid disorder!.

I strongly recommend that you see your doctor!. If your problem is due to low estrogen, your doctor might be able to regulate using birth control pills (that have estrogen/progesterone), or with hormone replacement therapy!.

Hope that helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you know i've been getting hot and cold flashes for years, and my periods are completely regular, but i haven't been able to figure out why the hot and cold flashes and why i'm always extremely irritable!. doctor said that they are symptoms of early menopause!. so i would talk to a doctor to make sure on what it could be!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
