Depo-provera long term use?!

Question: Depo-provera long term use!?
Unbelievably ive been on depo for 15yrs or there abouts and im getting worried about possible osteoporosis!. Ive never really considered this or talked about it with anyone!. Depo has always worked for me!. When i come off it to get pregnant it took me 2 weeks!. Ive never had bad side effects i don't think!. although i have got an underactive thyroid which could be masking some of the known side effects!. Can i go to my doc and request a bone density test!? Im getting worried and having an information overload which can be good!. Need some 'real' advice!. Thanks in advanceWww@Answer-Health@Com

I think you should definately speak to your doctor!. 15 years on depo is a long time, although it's amazing you recovered your fertility so quickly after coming off it, most women wait 6mnths-1year to regain a normal cycle!.

Depo-provera has been linked to oseoperosis, even in young women over only a few years of taking it!. Its a great method of contraception, but the side affects cannot be ignored!. When you first started with depo someone (doctor/sexual health nurse) should really have informed you of these risks, if not, then I'm quite concerned about that!.

Information overload is not good I know!. But healthcare professionals are trained to give you the advice you NEED and most importantly, the advice they think you can cope with!. Rather than hear-say from friends and family who mean well!. I would definately make an appointment with your doctor and have a good chat about it!. Good Luck x Www@Answer-Health@Com
