It is a yeast infection, and the yeast is there to begin with - it is part of the natural "flors" of the vagina - that is - the bacteria and fungi which naturally inhabit the vagina!.
Often, women get yeast infections when they take antibiotics!. The antibiotics kill the good bacteria in the vagina and the yeast then overgrow!.
You can get yeast infections more often if you use birth control pills also!.
Usually, they are not serious (but they are VERY uncomfortable)!.
