Childbirth question- is this true?!?!?!

Question: Childbirth question- is this true!?!!?!!?
I just read in a question on here that a woman giving birth is not allowed to eat or drink anything!!?

That makes no sense to me, surely if it is a long labour especially the woman is going to need energy and i would have thought food is the simplest way of getting that!.
And even more ridiculous no drinking!?! That seems insane!. You would not expect an athlete to perform for 36 hours straight with no liquid!.

So is it quite common for women who have just given birth to be extremly dehydrated!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You have an IV so that you don't get thirsty, and it's usually a glucose solution so you don't really feel hungry-trust me, when you're in labor, the last thing on your mind is food! Most hospitals will let you have small sips of water or ice chips to suck on!. Many women get nauseated during labor, so they don't want you to have anything in your stomach that might make you even more likely to throw up!. Also, if for some reason you need to have an emergency surgery (C-section) you are safer under general anesthesia if your stomach is empty!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, it is true!. The reason doctors do it is because the closer you are in labor to delivering, you could get sick!.

I was in hard labor for 19 hours (this means contractions coming every minute and a half and lasting for a minute)!. I still got ice chips and popsicles!. You also have an IV drip going into your arm to help with possible dehydration also!.

Here's the cool thing, after I had my last child, and I had recovered a bit, I got to select what I wanted to eat, and the nurses got it for me!.

Trust me, when you are in the throes of labor, the last thing you want is something to eat anyway!. No doctor is going to let you starve or dehydrate during your time of labor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's true they are not allowed to eat or drink, because If the woman requires emergency surgery due to complications and needs an anasthetic, she needs to have nothing in her stomach!. She will not get dehydrated because she would get an IV keeping her hydrated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's true you're not allowed to eat or drink anything except for ice chips!.!.!.and this is because labour and contractions can cause nausea and vomiting!. You would be suprised at how much energy your body has in reserve!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its true we allow only ice chips during labor in the event that an emergency c-section is necessary, which is MAJOR surgeryWww@Answer-Health@Com
