2 days after surgery and still haven't had a BM (TMI, I know!)?!

Question: 2 days after surgery and still haven't had a BM (TMI, I know!)!?
I had some surgery Thursday on my ovaries and cervix!. I started eating a little solid food yesterday!. Should I be concerned that I haven't had a BM since Thursday morning!? Also what can I do to ease the gas pains!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Gas-X for the gas, take a stool softener especially if you are taking narcotic pain medicine, they can lead to constipation!. I would not be overly concerned about not having a BM after 2 days, but you should have one in the next few days as your food intake increases!. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am assuming that you didn't eat for at least 24 hours before the surgery and haven't eaten many solid foods since (by your post)!. 2 days might be a bit long, but if you aren't eating any solid foods, you aren't going to have much solid waste leaving!. I would give it another day and if you are eating more solid food and still nothing, maybe give the doc a call!.

You also have to remember that most of what you are going to be eating is going to be used by the body as it's been starved of food for the last few days!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Any kind of opiate painkiller will cause your digestive system to slow down, and can cause constipation as a side effect!. If you're on any opiate, you should increase your fluid and fiber consumption; if you were on one for the surgery but aren't now, then I would think you'd be OK!. It can be distressing to have your systems screwed up, but I wouldn't really start worrying for another day unless you're feeling discomfort (like you have to go but can't)!. If you're experiencing discomfort, then you should call your doctor!. Since you only started eating solid food yesterday (and probably haven't eaten very much), it will take a while to prime the pump, as it were, and get things going normally again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nope, you shouldn't really be too concerned about this!. After surgery, bowel function is usually the last thing that gets back to normal!. I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago and they made me take medication to make me have gas! They wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I farted! LMAO I think that's hilarious! But no, don't be too upset about it yet!. Give it a few days and then call your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
