Yasmin: skipping the placebo pills and skipping your period?!

Question: Yasmin: skipping the placebo pills and skipping your period!?
Last time I went to my OB/GYN I asked about an oral contraceptive that would allow me to only get my period 4 times a year, so he gave my a prescription for Seasonique!. I didn't really like it as much as I liked Yasmin, which I had been previously been on for the past 3 years or so, so I switched back to the Yasmin!.

Would it be fine to just skip my sugar pills every month for three months and instead get my period once every 9 weeks (3 weeks x 3 months = 9 weeks) or even every four months to get my period every 12 weeks (3 weeks x 4 months = 12 weeks) so that I could stay on the Yasmin and still have fewer periods!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The doses of hormones in Seasonale/Seasonique are made to skip periods for extended cycles!. There are currently only 2 brands on the market that are FDA approved for this (Seasonique and Lybrel)!. The rest have doses that are not approved; if you do plan to do this you should clear it with your doctor first and make sure that you're healthy enough to do it!. Some of the side effects that can occur are stroke, DVT, heart attack, and dangerously high blood pressure (all related to the increased doses of hormones)!. Extended cycling should only be undertaken when directly under a doctor's care and supervision for the entire time (not a one-a-year check up and assumption)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't recommend it because your period is your bodies way of cleaning out your lining and keeping your uterus healthy!. If you don't let it clean out it might get infected or you may get an odor down there!. Not a good idea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm pretty sure you can, but expect irregular bleeding the first few months, your body just needs to adjust to it!. Ask your ob/gyn just to be sure!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
