WOMEN (or doctors) - Can you help me with this health question?!

Question: WOMEN (or doctors) - Can you help me with this health question!?
Is it normal for yeast infections to be cured and then come back a couple of weeks later!?

The reason I'm asking is I was on antibiotics a little while ago for an ear infection, and without fail I got a yeast infection right after!. I did Monistat (their 3 day medication), and the yeast infection seemed to go away!. I was fine for about 2 weeks, but it feels like I'm getting the beginning of another yeast infection!. Its a little itchy, and I've noticed a little more discharge than usual (whiter too)!. The symptoms are very mild though, and aren't making me THAT uncomfortable!.

Anyway - so I was wondering if it is normal to get another yeast infection so quickly after one going away!? Could it be that its the same one and I just didn't kill all the bad yeast the first time!? I don't think it could be an STD as my boyfriend's been overseas for the past 2 months, and I haven't had ANY other partners than him in a VERY long time!.

And if you think its a yeast infection again, any tips on how to make sure that it stays away this time!. Would a 7 day monistat thing do the trick!? I'm going to see my boyfriend in 4 weeks, and I really want to make sure we can get intimate right away!.

Oh, and lastly, I'm asking so I can avoid going to the doctors!. I have nothing against going to a doctors, as I do it all the time!. In fact, I think I go too much, so I'm hoping that I can start getting better on my own, so please I don't need to hear "Go to the doctors"!. Thanks for the help!

First, it does sound like you are coming up with another one!. It is not uncommon to get one again but there is something that is causing it for you!. Go ahead and do the seven day Monistat deal this time, maybe your yeast infection is stubborn to the medications!. Some of the most common causes of them are: powdering your "nether" regions - powder also causes cysts in the crease of the legs-, too tight pants that rub and cause irritation, nylon panties that don't breathe like cotton does, douching too often, bathing instead of showering, swimming a lot, sensitivity to certain feminine deodorants, soaps, bleach, antibiotics (you know all about this one!), scented tampons, anything that interupts the natural PH balance of your vaginal area!. So maybe you can do an inventory of anything like this and see what you can do to help cut down on them!. Sometimes, for unknown reasons, we go through a time of getting them every third month for a year and then don't have them for two years at all!. Just know it is something that is upsetting the natural balance of good bacteria and ph and not something "nasty" that you are doing!. I have heard that if you douche with plain unflavored yogurt that this will help with the itch and burn as well as to help restore the natural balance, it won't totally heal you but will help with the symptoms as well as being soothing to the tissues!. I have never tried this but if it helps I thought I would pass it on!. Good luck and enjoy your time with your boyfriend!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes there are times that can happen, it has happened to me, I had to get Diflucan (sp!?!?) from my doctor, it is a pill!. HOWEVER, I'm not saying this to scare you but, sometimes if you treat it and it keeps coming back it is not a yeast infection it can be Vaginitus which is like a recurring yeast infection, you would however have to go to the doctor to get better meds then what is used for a yeast infection!. This happened to a friend of mine!. BUT you can always try Vagasil or Monastat again and see if that clears it up!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Eat yogurt 3 times a day and do an iodine douche once a day for a week!. The yogurt will help restore the natural flora in your system and the iodine will kill the yeast growing in your vaginal tract!.

If you are prone to this condition, you might want to try using a calendula douche on a regular basis or at least once weekly!. Make an herbal infusion at home and use it on a regular basis!. It's especially good for keeping yeast at bay and is safe with no harmful side effects!.

This infection, which may be transmitted sexually, is very common!. Yeast infections cause vaginal itching, burning, and pain!. Antifungal cream often is used to treat vaginal yeast infection!. 75% of all women encounter this menace during their lifetime as candida is normally present in the vaginal flora!. We experience symptoms when an overgrowth of this flora happens due to many different sources!. Some of the reasons women so often experience yeast infection are as follows:

Broad-spectrum antibiotic use
Diabetes mellitus
Douching
Immunodeficiency
IUDs
Pregnancy
Scented feminine hygiene products
Steroid use
Sexual transmission (men carry yeast but tend to be asymptomatic)

Signs & Symptoms of Yeast Infection:

Itching, burning, and vulvovaginal pain, irritation, and inflammation are common symptoms of yeast infection!. Thick, white, cottage-cheesy vaginal discharge may coat the vaginal walls!. There is no foul odor!. Urination and intercourse may be painful!.

The reason physicians discourage long term self diagnosis when yeast is not cleared up by a normal dose of over the counter medication is because there are several other sexually transmitted diseases that present with similar or same symptoms such as:

gonorrhea, trichomonas, chlamydia, and other more serious conditions that must be treated with more aggressive antibiotics!. Remember yeast infection can and is passed back and forth between sexual partners with the male most often unaware that he is carrying candidas!.

Home Remedies:

*Regularly daubing apple cider vinegar in the areas prone to this infection!. Your can add some garlic to stop the itchy feeling; and water to dilute the vinegar concentration!.
*Curds or yogurt is regarded as one of the best home remedies!. In fact, it is advisable to soak a tampon into curds and place it in the infected region for at least an hour!. Basically, the healthy required bacteria from the curds will replace the unhealthy yeast bacteria!. This could be repeated twice to thrice a day!.
*Drink at least two glasses of buttermilk a-day, whether infected or not!. In fact making curds a part of the daily diet in take reduces the probability of yeast infection!.
*Mixture of olive leaf extract with grapefruit seed extraction a glass of water is a good curative tonic for this infection!.
*Wear cotton panties only and keep the area dry!.
*Warm salt bath
*Apply honey to the outer affected are for 15 minutes and gently remove!.
*Avoid using any soap or shampoo to the affected area as it kills the natural protective oils!.

In closing if a dose of OTC medication does not cure your problemn, I would strongly suggest a visit to your PCP to discuss the issue with him!. It is very possible that you and your partner are cross contaminating one another, perhaps your blood sugar should be checked, possibly you have another diagnosis!? If your partner has yeast he will likely not be aware of it and you will need to sit down and discuss it with him so he can see his Dr!. to be treated for yeast infection so the 2 of you can enjoy sex without the constant worry or recontamination!. It is a very easily curable condition with few if any side effects other then discomfort!. There should be little embarrassment in that it is a normal flora in the body that easily becomes overgrown due to any variety of reasons!.

Good Luck and if a 2nd dose of OTC medication does not do the trick and you find yourself with the same symptoms down the road a piece, please speak to your Dr!. and your boyfriend about this problem and how best to clear it up permanently!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
