Do anti-biotics reduce depo effectiveness?!

That's why my son's girlfriend says she's pregnant!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a big skepticism about this topic!.

The best thing to do is for your son's girlfriend to ask her obgyn about it!.

I have researched this for some time though and here is what I found!. Some say that it's best you use the Depo Provera shot for birth control if you are on long-term antibiotics considering both birth control pills and antibiotics are taken orally and is affected in that way!. The shot doesn't bypass the intestines!.

Also, since I do not live in the United States, I am not allowed to view the product information about Depo-Provera on the pfizer!.com website!. How sketchy is that crap!?

If you look up health forums you will notice that a lot of women who get pregnant while on depo blame it on antibiotics but every medical site with real doctors say that there is no interactions and no efficacy problems!.

I also think SP needs to re-think what she said considering no contraceptive is 100 percent effective!. Only abstinence is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't THINK so, but I am not sure!. The pill is something you take everyday, so it could interfere with your daily absorption of the pill, so instead of it being 97% effective, it might make it like 80% effective!. The depo shot is in your system for three months, it's a constant stream of hormones for that time period, therefor, I would ASSUME that the only way it WOULD interfere with the shot is to make it wear off sooner than it should, but I even doubt that!. Call a pharmacist and ask!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not entirely sure!.!.!.

I know that the pill can be rendered ineffective by antibiotics!. Depo is also hormone based, so I assume that the same would be true!Www@Answer-Health@Com

depo isn't 100% effective anyways!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes it doesWww@Answer-Health@Com
