Question: Sensitive to touch but want comfort!!?
I am 14 and very sensitive to touch!. People say im really awkward to hug and i dont like when people try to touch my face or stuff!. I have heard that this corresponds to having ADHD- which i do have!. However, although im sensitive to touch i really want to comfort from my friends like hugs and let them rest their head on my shoulder but i cant! What should i do to make me less sensitive!?

Hey I have ADHD too!!!! sweet anyways when you say sensitive you mean like you get uncomfortable easily right!? If you do then man!.!.!.!.thats a toughy!. In a behavioral psychology method what they would have you do is systematic desensitization!.!.!.Basically start small with touching something or having someone touch you that gives you litte anxiety!.!.!.!.Like a 1 on a 1 to 10 scale!. EX: touching your own arm!. then gradually do things that cause more anxiety until it finally subsides!. Like a 10 EX: Hugging a stranger!. But what you need to do this is!.!.!.!.have someone help you along the way and tell you that everything is fine until your anxiety subsides at that specific task!.

I had the same problem (not ADHD, but being awkward about touching)!. However, I came to the realization that we're all human, and it's human nature to want to be with others and want comfort!. So don't shun want you most likely truly want - embrace it!
Try hugging one person a day to start!. Then work your way up!. If that's too much, try a pat on the back or a one-armed hug to get yourself started!. Once you're comfortable with it, work yourself up!. Also, don't be afraid to reach out and comfort others because studies show that hugging and holding hands is comforting and calming!.

Im a very skittish person about being touched as well!. I used to flinch a lot when people went to touch my face or mess with my waist!. My friends used to always joke that I could initiate hugs but I didn't receive them very well!.I Don't really know how I ended up being able to be hugged and messed with by my friends!. I really just grew out of it and got a little calmer!. Its not that I was necessarily awkward or weird at all!. I just need a lot of personal space and you probably are the same!. My family justisn'tt very touchy feely and so I didn't grow up around hugs and play touching!. just keep at it and if you initiate a hug it might feel less awkward!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm the same way I almost feel claustrophobic or anxious when I am being touched or in a close situation!.!.!.

You have to learn to breath through it !.!.!.sounds odd I know !.!.!.but that is something that you have to learn to control by yourself!.!.!.I mean there a million drugs under the sun for anxiety and things like this but trust me your better off learning young to cope without meds!.!.!.it helps you out so much!.!.!.

Try looking into creative visualization it really helps me out I have used it since I was a teen and I am in my 20's!.!.!.!.I have been there and still am and it is all in self control!.!.!.

Funny sometimes when people hug me I get over excited and end of pinching or squeezing people to hard and when really excited jump up and down or run in place (I know weird)!.!.!.!.well I am only a little over 100 lbs so I am sure it doesn't hurt to much and people don't seem to mind :) Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would say go up to your friends and be the one in control!.!.or
hug them first!
maybe this will help you with your touch sensitive case!.Eventually if you keep comforting and touching them such as hugging, holding hands with someone at a movie, that when somebody hugs you, it will be easy and no worries!

i think it' s just in the timing!. if you feel at that moment that you don't want anyone to touch you, then just try to avoid physical contact!. it happens to me too!. but when you feel you want comfort, then just hug your friend, they'll soon know when it's ok for you to be touched!. i don't like people touching me either! do what i do and give everyone VERY elaborate high Fives!. they will think it's funny and you won't have to touch them but for a split second!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I am 13 and I am the exact same wayy! Like every time a boy/girl hugs me they say somethin about me bein stiff or somethin!. But just try to relax!. Thats what I had to do!. And I learned it really works!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would try seeing a threrapist that can help you get over this issue
or i would jsut practice maybe with your mom or super close friends with hugs and stuff until it feels more comortableWww@Answer-Health@Com

exercise alot and try building some mucle pattings on your body which wont make you sensitive any moreWww@Answer-Health@Com

Ask a doctor for a med or something, other than that i cannot tell you very much about it
