Basically, you had what's called "failure to progress" in labour!. If you got stuck at 6cm for 6hrs it suggests that something is wrong - most likely that the baby simply isn't going to fit through your pelvis and therefore can't descend any further down the birth canal (that's what causes the dilatation)!.

You could have waited forever and would probably never have reached 10cm, and labour is a tiring process for mum and baby, so after a certain amount of time doctors will suggest having a c-section instead, because they realise that you're unlikely to be able to deliver naturally!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe the baby also wasn't moving down into the birth canal as well as the doctor would have liked!.
That's what happened to my sister in law!. But she was in labor for a longer time!. I don't remember for sure but I think she was fully dilated!.

Some doctors are just different!. Maybe your doctor just thought you should have dilated faster!.
I don't know how long it took my sister to dilate, but she was in labor for 12 hours!. And had the baby vaginally!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Because if you don't finish dialating your baby could have lost oxygen and low ameniotic fluided and that can kill!. It is better to be safe than sorry!. I know that Doctors in Michigan are trying to cut out natural birth all together even without a problem cause C section is less of a chance for problems!. I had two c sections with my kids for the same reason and that it what they told me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
