Question: Would I be able to sue the clinic for this!?
This seems like patient neglect to me but I want your opinion!. I've been going to the same family planning clinic since I was 16!. I'm 21 now!. It's a clinic for women with low income so usually people that go there are from a low socio-economic class, including me!. But I am currently in LVN school and will be graduating next month to better myself!. Anyway I didn't know anything about a self breast exam until we talked about it in class a week ago!. I found out that when you get your yearly pap smear they are also supposed to do a breast exam!. The clinic does my pap smear every year but they've only checked my breast 1 time out of 5 whole years!. Well last week I did a self exam and found lumps!. I scheduled an appointment at a different clinic and the physician found that I have Fibrocystic Breast Disease!. I was terrified when he told me that because that increases my chances of getting breast cancer by 75%!. They drew my blood and want me back in a few weeks to tell me the results as to what may have caused this!.
I'm not one of those lawsuit happy people and actually I can't stand people like that!. But this situation really scares me!. I think that maybe if the family planning clinic had been performing yearly breast exams like they were suppose to this couldve been detected sooner and my treatment could have already been in progress!. I don't know what to do!.

Well I am not aware of all the rules and regulations with your health system where ever you live, but I know here, they only do the breast exam if you ask them to!. It is stupid, I know, but here that is how they do it!. If it was the same thing there, then I doubt you could get away with suing them, and trying would be very expensive!. I would check into it with some professionals and lawyers first!. There is a website that you can go to that will help you out, you would just need to post your question and where you are from!. You should double check and see if the clinic was required to give you exams!. If they were required, but didn't, you can sue them!.
Even if you have all this evidence, there is still a chance that you might not win the case!. But it is worth a try!.
