AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome!. AIDS is the condition diagnosed when there are a group of related symptoms that are caused by severe HIV infection!. AIDS makes the body vulnerable to life-threatening illnesses called opportunistic infections!.

you can't "catch" aids from someone else!. you get hiv, which is a virus, and like many viruses (herpes, hpv), you can't get rid of them, they stay in your body for the rest of your life!. hiv turns into aids,which kills your immune system, making you defenseless against otherwise simple things, such as the flu or chicken pox, and since you have no immune system thanks to the aids, the flu could very easily kill you!. that's why people die, from something they get and can't defend theirselves from because of aids!. its not the actual hiv or aids that kills them!. it just contributes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

HIV is the virus that may causes AIDS!. HIV belongs to a subset of viruses called retroviruses or slow virus!. According to the Center for Disease Control, Aids/HIV is the leading cause of death of people in the US between the ages of 25-44!.
This is because it is a progressive disease!. HIV is entered through the body through the mucous membranes or thru blood to blood contact!.
Once you get the virus it slowly begins to attack the immune system, killing off healthy immune system cells!. The deterioration and destruction of immune function leads to AIDS!.
