Do I really have pelvic inflammatory disease?!

Question: Do I really have pelvic inflammatory disease!?
I suffer from rather bad endometriosis which was diagnosed 11 years ago!. I have subsequently had 5 laparoscopies for cauterisation of the areas!. I have endometriosis on mostly on my bladder, ovaries and the Pouch of Douglas between my vagina and rectum!.

Whenever I had flare-ups it would feel like cramping in my bladder and like someone stuck a hot poker up my bum!. This is how it has been presenting itself when it flares up for the past 11 years!.

During my fourth operation in 2003 the doctor put in a Mirena IUCD which helped beautifully as it released progesterone in small quantities and kept the endometriosis in check!.

Since 2003 I have had almost no problems, but as the Mirena only lasts five years (which is the time I have had it in now) the progesterone it secretes becomes less and less which my Mirena is at the end of its lifespan now!. I wanted to have it replaced in September but in the meantime my husband died of cancer and I had to pay for the funeral and do all sorts of other things, so i still havent gotten around to having it replaced!.

Since about 4 months ago I have been having pains again!. The same bladder/bum symptoms which I know so well!. They started off as small twinges but last night I had a big attack!. What usually happens in these situations is that I go to the doc, he gives me a Volraren, Buscopan and morphine shot!. This really helps but it only treats the symptoms - he cant do much more other than treat the symptoms until I go see the gynae, probably have another laparoscopy, cauterise the are and insert another Mirena!. Which I know I must have done ASAP - I will make an appointment for next week before it gets even more out of hand!.

So I had my worst attack last night in a long time and went to the doctor!. I explained the situation to him, that I know this pain as my old arch enemy!. He gave me the usual treatment, but he is a new doctor and I havent been to him before!. He is convinced that I have pelvic inflammatory disease!. My urine tested negative for bugs and I have no discharge at all!. I had a temp of 37!.4 degrees Celcius which I found no surprise because it is 40 degrees outside at the moment!. I also havent had sex in months and I have also not had a bladder infection in years!. I also do not have a STD!. In fact, I had been treated for PID for five years since I was diagnosed with endometriosis in the first place!.

Do I really have pelvic inflammatory disease or is this just a flare up of the endometriosis as I think it is!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Well your new doctor is new to you, and may not be totally on board with you and your history!. He does have, over me, the advantage of at least having examined you and perused your full records!.

That being said, and me playing on my long history in the field, and most importantly, acknowledging the best of all possible informational sources on a new patient - the patient herself - will say this!.!.!.

I personally (from here anyway) don't believe you have PID!. It sounds more to me like you may be getting another visit from your old friend, as you put it!.

BTW, my sympathy as well on the loss of your husband, Olga!.

I would go to another gyno and get a second opinion!. Mirena is injectable now, better yet it now comes in a coil, (IUD) which your gyno can insert in the uterus!. I doubt you have a PID, your doctor is taking the easy way out and prescribing pills!. Get a second opinion!.
The good news is when you go through menopause, you will no longer have trouble with endometriosis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It does sound like you have had a difficult time medically and emotionally as well!. My sympathies on the death of your husband!.
I think that you need to get the name of a good OB/GYN clinic from friends/co-workers and make an appointment!. The reason I say a clinic is they have several doctors who consult with each other which in any complicated issue (such as yours) is important!. Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon!.
