Big question!. Okay!. Since you say that you've read things, and that you're a bit confused, I will try to break it down in plain english, as easy as possible!.!.!. :

* Let's say your period started Dec 1st!. Let's also say that you know that your menstrual cycle lasts 30 days (meaning your period starts every 30 days)!.

*This means your next period would start Dec 30th!.

*SO, to know when you ovulate, you have to know the length of your personal cycle!. If it is irregular, then it's difficult to locate ovulation!.

- I'm going over this, because the first step in guesstimating where ovulation is, is knowing how to count your cycle!. You may know how, but a lot of people don't, so this was just to be sure -

* A woman TYPICALLY will ovulate midway through her cycle!. So if she began her period Dec!. 1st and her cycle is 30 days, she could assume that she would ovulate around day 15, which happens to be the 15th of December!.

*Ovulation = Fertile

*So you know that midway is when you ovulate!. The thing is, ovulation is not always clockwork, so you should always consider that you could ovulate up to 2 days earlier ( 13th or 14th) or two days later (16th or 17th)!.

*So you would say, generally, that you are most fertile from the 13th - to the 17th!.

*HOWEVER!. It is also important to note that sperm can live in the female body for up to five days!? So, for example, if sperm made it into the uterus, say, on Dec!. 9th!.!.!.!. it would survive right into the "window of fertility" if you know what I mean!.

I believe that outlines ovulation!.

*You are LEAST fertile RIGHT after your period, or after you believe you have ovulated!.

(What ovulation means is that the egg is being released from the ovary!. Once this happens, the egg can only live for about a day without being fertilized and then it dies!. )

*So speaking from the textbook body, you are also LEAST fertile about a week or so before you expect your period!.

*So right after you finish bleeding and right before you expect to bleed basically!.

*This is all a lot of guess work, and you really shouldn't depend solely on this for preventing pregnancy!.

Hope this helped some!.

It's different for every person!. Generally they say days 7 to 11 are your most fertile!. But for some women it can be 13 to 16, or 4 to 8!.!.!.you get the idea!. I believe DURING your period you're the least fertile because you're shedding the lining of the uterus!. Probably immediately beforehand also!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
