I got the paragard (copper IUD) a few months ago and the last 2 periods since I got it have been out of control!. A super heavy duty tampon lasts about an hour and I sneezed once (with a super duty long pad on) and well!.!.!. it almost went up to my belly button, I erupted, it was aweful, thank God I was at home!. I'm afraid to leave because I might make a mess!.!.!.

The Paraguard is known to cause heavier periods the first few months you have it, and afterward things should settle back down to what they were like before at least- if not a little lighter!. It seems to work by changing the physical conditions of the endometrium, and that is what you shed during the period!. In the beginning, it is an irritant to the endometrium, which can react by building up thicker- hence the heavier period!. As your body adjusts to it, things calm back down!. In the meantime, well- it's not so pleasant!. However you should never soak though a tampon or pad in under two hours without seeing the doctor to make sure things are okay!. This might be a good time to revisit the gynecologist and have things checked out!. It may be the Paraguard is not a good choice for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
