Endometriosis or PCOS?!

Question: Endometriosis or PCOS!?
Hi!. I'm a 30 yr old female!. I have two children (now 12 and 10)!. In the last couple of months I've been experiencing A LOT of abdominal and pelvic pain!. I went to see my general practitioner and she sent me for an ultrasound!. She called me with the results and said that she thought I may have Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome!. And that I needed to return for some blood work to determine for sure!. As I am currently uninsured, she said I could wait for my insurance card to arrive before coming back in for the blood test, that there was no rush (I'm waiting for my Medicaid card)!. In the last couple of days since hearing the news that I may have PCOS, some other symptoms have also started happening!. The main one is that my stomach is bloating really bad!. I'm a very small person at 5'2, 103lbs!. I've always had a flat stomach (other than when I was pregnant of course)!. This new stomach bloating is not like fatty tissue, it's a pretty solid, round belly, as if I'm pregnant (which I'm not - routine check by the doc gave negative results, PLUS I haven't had intercourse in almost 2 years)!. The pelvic pain is becoming close to unbearable, and another new symptom is tailbone pains!.

Anyhow, when I look my symptoms up, Endometriosis is what comes up in the results!. But, wouldn't the unltrasound have picked that up!? Could it be mistaken for PCOS!?

Any help or tales of experience is MUCH appreciated!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Endometriosis is usually diagnosed by a laproscopy, not an ultrasound!. My Dh & I have been ttc#2 for 20 months now, I have had every test imagineable to see what could be wrong!. They would always find nothign wrong!. A month ago, I was admitted into the ER for severe pelvic pain!. They ran tests and determined I had a bleeding cyst on my ovaries!. My doc performed a laproscopy and then determined, not only did I have a cyst, but also stage 4 endometriosis!. Now, I must get on shots for 6 months and stop ttc until I get off the shots, hoping this helps my endo being it is so bad!. You may want to talk to your doc about having a laproscopy done to find out the cause!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Endometriosis is usually diagnosed by a transvaginal scan or a laparoscopy!.

A common symptoms with endometriosis is constipation & then having stools which are painful to push out, this is due to the swelling of the lower abdomen!. Pelvic pain is also very common!.

Yes, endometriosis can very easily be missed from just an ultrasound scan!.

I have PCOS and rarely suffer any form of pain, though it does vary a lot from woman to woman!.

However it is pretty pointless worrying yourself until you are properly diagnosed!.

In the meantime, I suggest you have a chat with the pharmacist in the chemist and see which OTC medicines/tablets will help relieve pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
