Can Nuva Ring or Ortho Evra (birth control patch) be used for period suppression!

Question: Can Nuva Ring or Ortho Evra (birth control patch) be used for period suppression!?
I currently take the pill form of birth control to suppress my periods so I only get them a few times a year!. (This was a decision I arrived at after discussing it with my gynecologist!.) I am curious as to whether or not the Nuva Ring or birth control patch can be used for this purpose as well!. Would either method be as effective as the pill!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

They are all hormone releasing form of birth control!. Are you currently on a birth control where you only take the active pills so that you won't have a period at all!?

Or are you on 3 month birth control where you only get a period every 3 months

Anyhow, I have seen a couple patients that use the Ortho Evra patches continuously so they will not have a period until they decide to leave it off for 7 days!. I am not sure if I've seen Nuvaring used that way and I am not sure about studies being done on Nuvaring for that!. I would talk to your gynecologist and see what he or she thinksWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know why you're doing that, BUT, if that's what you want, try the shot!. I took it every 3 months and completely stopped having a period!. I didn't have one for almost 2 years!!! I'm not regular now after being off the shot for 4 years, but I wasn't regular BEFORE the shot so it doesn't matter!.

Oh, and I took the patch for a few months and I had spotting in between and I tried to make my period hold off a week by putting on a new patch when I should have taken one off and I just spotted all week before having a period for a week!. I had HORRIBLE side effects from the patch and my primary care dr and my gyno both said their patients had severe side effects as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have used the nuva ring, but unfortantely, I couldnt get it to stay in place!. I have been on the patch also!. I was on it for about six months when I got pregnant with my daughter!. I have also heard others say they did to!. I wouldnt recomend it to anyone if you are sexually active!. It also doesnt surpress periods!. Cause you were it for so long and then take it off for a week for your period to come and go!. Then you apply another one on until the next month for your period!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Also the patch has alot more hormones in it then the pills!.!.and it has horrible side effects!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I got pregnant on the nuva-ring!. So have several of the pregnant woman at my ob office!. I DO NOT recomend it!. There is only one pill out there that is a form of birth control that only allows you to have a few periods a year!. Most likely the one your on!. Discus this with your gyno!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm on the nuva ring and my periods have pretty much stayed the same, and you still get one once a month so I'd stick with the pill!. I've never used the patch before though so I can't help with that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It all sounds interesting i just wonder if it hurts your body not to menstruate and also how safe is birth control!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
