The terrifying part of surgery is not knowing what to expect!. As an unfortunate veteran of the operating room, let me tell you!. You spend a long time checking in then get taken to a room where you spend an eternity getting prepped and waiting!. The anesthesiologist will come in and chat (they'll look in your mouth amongst other weird trivia) and then maybe the doctor will come in to chat!. (Some do, some don't) The nurse or anesthesiologist will start the IV and, within minutes, you're incredibly cold!. (Hint: ask for the nurse who does the best IV's!. This shouldn't be practice on the pin cushion time!.) They have this magic anesthesia that they'll secretly put into your IV that's timed to kick in once you are !.!.!. wheeled into OR, settled onto your table, probably have your arms out (to form a 't') from your body, and there will be all these people puttering around you!. You'll be shivering and freaked out by "oh crap, I'm having surgery!" You'll realize they are normal people behind those face masks because they're complaining about their kids or talking about shoes!. Yes, really: shoes!. Laying there like this is the worst point in all of this!. Then from the corner of the room will come the warm blankets!. They will tuck these awesome-ly warmed up blankets around you and you'll find you aren't shivering!. Very quickly you warm up and relax where you're at!. The nurse will appear at your head and tell you that they're going to put the oxygen mask on you - it will freak you out - but just breath and relax!. They may have you count from 10 to 1!. You won't make it to 7!.

You'll wake up in recovery and be completely disoriented!. Probably uncomfortable but not sure why you're uncomfortable or what hurts!. Some people (me) puke from the anesthesia which just sucks!. You'll have a nurse who keeps chattering at you because she's trying to help bring you out of the anesthesia 'hang over!.' You'll hang there for an hour or more!. You may fall asleep mid-sentence and wake up minutes later to finish exactly where you left off!. Then you'll move into your own room where they'll monitor you until you're released!.

I didn't learn this until my last trip but you can ask for the magic warm blankets while you are WAITING to go back!. Ask for them as it's like this !.!.!. seriously calming thing when you are so scared!.

I'll cross my fingers for you that it will be smooth surgery and a quick recovery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have nothing to worry about I have had 3 surgeries and i'm only 13! I had two neck surgeries and on one of them they had to take a bone out of neck!. So they can be a little painful but they give you good medicine so your in good hands!. I thought of my surgeries as a little vacation from school!. I got time to hang out with my mom,and i got a lot of gifts ;)! Also I hate IVs so i asked them if they could give it to me after i was a sleep from the mask!. And they did!.
To calm down i say you take a nice hot bath read a magazine and get into comfy PJ's!
Don't worry you'll be fine i promise, have a nice vacation ;)!Www@Answer-Health@Com

don't worry!. having surgery is actually a really easy process!.!.!.they usually give you meds before which prepare your body for the surgery and calm you down as well!. then you'll go in a bed and they'll put a mask on you, you inhale the air and it puts you to sleep!. i'm 16 too and had surgery when i was 8!.!.!.i remember they told me to count down backwards from 100 once they put the mask on me and i only got to 93 before i was too tired to keep going!. its really nice!. you just fall asleep and wake up and its over, its not really like sleeping where you know you've been out for awhile, its feels like just taking an hour nap!. depending on what surgery you're having you might hurt later when you wake up but im assuming since you're 16 it can't be anything too serious!.!.!.plus even if you are in pain later on they're obviously going to have pain medications for you!. seirously, don't worry about it!. everyone is just afraid of the unknown and you're scared not knowing what to expect, but its really an easy process!. try your best not to be nervous, everything will be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had surgery for the first time when I was 17 to remove half of my thyroid!. I wasn't really nervous!.!.!.!.they do that stuff all the time and worrying isn't going to get you anywhere!. I'm not sure what your procedure entails but they gave me medication (Valium) before the operation to help calm me even though I didn't need it!. They might do the same for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had a hysterectomy and it was a piece of cake!. Over in no time!. The only thing that pissed me off is that I wasn't allowed to eat for a whole day!.

Don't worry about it!. You go to sleep and when you wake up it will all be over and you will be doped up, have no pain and sleep for a while!. Also, if you have a good surgeon, the scar will hardly show once you are healed up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
