Weird bump down there?!

Question: Weird bump down there!?
When I got a check up the doc said it was foliculitist, she wasn't a dermatologist she was a gyno but it has been a month and the bump still hasn't gone away!.

Should I see the dermatologist or the gyno again!? I doubt dermatologists even look down there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Girl, folliculitis is very common with women!. You most likely have folliculitis if the bump is on your labia majora (the thicker outer lips of your vagina where there are hair folicles present)!.

If the bump is on your labia minora however (inside where there are NO hair follicles present) then it's probably something else and not foliculitis)!.

About seeing a dermatologist, here's the thing:

If the bump appears to be on the SURFACE of the skin (I mean you can see it at the top), then you might want to get another opinion, be it from a dermatologist or another OBGYN!.

If the bump looks like its UNDER the surface of the skin, most likely it's follicultis, which develops in areas of the body where there's a lot of hair and 'hair follicles' present; hence the term folliculitis!.

Did your OBGYN recommend any topical meds at all!?!?!?

Ive had that happen to me also, especially in the weeks following hair removal!. My doc recommended that I use and apply Neosporin once a day whenever I get a bump!. Neosporin is an anitbiotic OTM (over the counter) topical ointment that they sell at drug stores!. It helps heal the folliculitis and prevents it from getting worse or infected!.

For me once I put that on, in about a week the bump is gone!

My doc also recommended that I use a loofah sponge when I shower (which I told her that I already do on a daily basis anyway) and that I take hot showers to aid in the healing process of the folliculitis (the steam helps)!.

Always be gentle when washing that area, but most importantly: AVOID TOUCHING, RUBBING AGAINST, OR DOING ANYTHING TO THE BUMP THAT DOESNT HAVE TO DO WITH CLEANING/HYGIENE! That will only further irritate it and it will prolong healing time and/or make it worse! Not to mention folliculitis bumps tend to be tender to the touch, so it will cause a little pain and soreness if you mess with it too much!.

Best of luck!

PS: Dont listen to the AIDS/HERPES comment below! That person is very ignorant!.Theres a reason why they have 0% best answers!. They are just being jerks by trying to scare you!. Last I checked bumps on the genital region are not direct symptoms caused by AIDS and second of all your doctor would have KNOWN if it was Herpes by looking at it!

Even if your doc had the SLIGHTEST concern that it could be Herpes (or any other spreadable STD for that matter) they would have tested you to be 100% sure because that is a very sensitive issue since it is a communicable disease and that needs to be reported to the department of health by law!Www@Answer-Health@Com
